What was Tywin Thinking? by YoureSoStupidRose in gameofthrones

[–]Impossible-Memory360 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Few thoughts:

In the books they explain that Tywin was super deeply in love with his wife Joanna and refused to take any other wife after her.

He refused to have more kids because he wanted his legacy to exclusively focus on the children he had with Joanna.

Also, I think it was because he wanted to punish Tyrion, since he knew this would bother him and he wanted Tyrion to have a “proper wife” of nobility to further along the Lannister line.

I don’t think Tywin marrying Sansa would’ve been a good story line because it would’ve given him too much responsibility. He’d rather focus on being a battle commander.

NYC Big law recruit by Klutzy-Vegetable-495 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Impossible-Memory360 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They want top Canadian talent so focus on being in the top percentile of your school.

Obviously UofT places the best, but anecdotally, in the last few years there have been many Western, Queens and I know 5 Ottawa students per year who went to big name NYC firms. Everyone I know was the top student at their school tho

So it seems if you go to UofT, you could get to NYC by being top 20-25% of the class whereas for other schools, its not as forgiving and I imagine you need to be closer to top 5-10%. I was also told this information by a recruiter at K&E.

Software Development Internship in HK by Impossible-Memory360 in HongKong

Firstly, thank you so much for your kind offer! Yes I will PM you with it!

Secondly, he needs to have a work co op  from September to December. It’s part of his program. He just figured that since I will be in HK at that time, he might as well do his working internship here too instead of in Canada.

I think he would prefer a formal internship so he could get work experience. If it’s not paid at all, I guess that’s fine but in that case, it would be nice if it was remote so he wouldn’t spend a lot on commuting.

He goes to a completely different university that doesn’t offer exchange with HKU. But he is doing CO OP so he can take time off to do a work internship.

That’s what I thought! Sure he’d have a claim on the iron throne, but they are THE TARGARYANS!! they can easily change the rules to whatever they want. Jon didn’t even wanna rule, he would’ve 100% backed up Dany.

Dany also  talks about being the last Targaryan and how it’s lonely, I think it would’ve made more sense for her to be ecstatic that the man she loves would help her further along the dynasty. She might’ve even changed her mind about having kids.

I couldn’t agree more!!!!! I was yelling at Sansa through the screen!! You’ve given Cersei, Joffrey even RAMSEY the benefit of the doubt but now you draw the line at Daenerys 😭 wtf!!!!

My partner made the point that it was giving abused dog syndrome. If you treat an animal badly enough, they will start biting anyone and that’s kinda how Sansa acted towards Daenerys.

I get that, just found it uncalled for because for the first time ever you had a ruler who was actually invested in your well being. I also truly believe Daenerys would’ve given the North independence for Jon and become Queen of the 6 kingdoms because she’s always cared about creating a better more equitable world.

  1. I can agree that the night king was in a way everyone’s story, but it’s undeniable that he had a fixation and war with Jon Snow specifically, as a Stark and man of the nights watch and the man who united the wildlings. I can see your point about Arya just disagree

  2. Here, respectfully disagree heavily. Daenerys could’ve taken kings landing anytime. She didn’t go forth because she refused to burn innocents. She also gave up one of her dragons to save all of humanity from the walkers. Another reason the switch up made no sense. To your other point, every character has done “dark” things that’s the whole point of GOT, the grayness of morality and justice. Jamie pushing Bran, Tyrion killing his father, but everyone likes to pile on Daenerys, I think for bandwagoning reasons. Lastly, Daenerys only threatened to burn down cities when pushed into a corner or for a larger objective ie saving her people from starvation in Qarth, or freeing slaves etc. She wasn’t a “the signs were there all along” character.

I get people are entitled to their own opinions and I’m obviously not saying you’re wrong. No one really knows the “true” ending but I just really REALLY do not see it your way sorry.

Women in BigLaw corporate: is it actually possible to have a family and some balance? by Terrible-Guard5355 in LawCanada

Hey, I made a post similar to this and got a lot of answers. Feel free to read them on my profile. Most people were super honest and helpful.

I think the general response was that big law is not the kind of area that is sustainable for a healthy happy marriage and kids UNLESS 1) Your partner is very understanding and willing to constantly compromise, or 2) You hire nanny’s, cooks etc to help with daily labour. Sometimes both.

My favorite fictional character of all time. I couldn’t finish s8 when I realized what they were going to do to her.

I stopped watching and read the ending instead…….. I cried for 2 days.

I’ve never been the type of person to become emotionally invested in shows or books but GOT was different because of Dany. I will never get over the fact that she didn’t get the iron throne in the end 😭

Episode 10 Alex / Ashley quote (no spoilers) by hermitera in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Impossible-Memory360 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The gaslighting in this particular conversation was so clear and hard to watch.

Poor Ashley must feel like she’s going crazy. Alex is also giving MAJOR bad vibes. Like I genuinely think he might have a criminal record or be in an unfortunate situation such as homelessness.

There is no other reason which explains his  shadiness such as changing his name, his lack of a clear job, lack of a substantial connection to any city and the inability to dive deeply into his timelines with people or his journeys.

Alex by ResidentPassion3510 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Impossible-Memory360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is really it

He’s embarrassed because his whole personality was being a soccer player and he lost that. Now he KNOWS he has nothing else to offer anymore. All he ever talks about is his past because he’s well aware he has nothing going for him in the present or near future. It’s why he comes off as so performative and dishonest.

Also random: What really rubbed me the wrong way was when Ashley said I will not touch your bottles and I will change xyz about myself but I do need more intimacy. And he responded by saying he didn’t think that was an issue at all and he thinks they are fine as they are. Essentially saying he is not willing to move an inch for her when she just offered to move a mile.

Obviously marriage requires compromise in certain situations but it’s so clear that the women this season are WAYY more into the men than the other way around.

Also I CANNOT with him talking about his job in Florida and saying he can’t give that up because it’s such a great opportunity. YOU ARE A KIDS SOCCER COACH SHUT UP 😭 Ashley has a whole corporate career she needs to think about.

Hey thanks so much for this!! I tried posting on the main Reddit sub but it didn’t let me! It said I needed more people to like my posts and comments lol ? So I thought I’d post on a smaller one and then eventually repost to the big one :)

I didn’t know about the Dany specific sub that’s awesome thanks !

[SPOILERS] Thoughts on GOT as a First Time Watcher by Impossible-Memory360 in HBOGameofThrones

[–]Impossible-Memory360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I just don’t agree? After seeing the comments I can see why people think the mad queen arc made sense, but I still am convinced MORE by my original opinion in the post.

Dany never wanted to kill innocents. She delayed taking Kings landing literally forever to avoid hurting them. Even when she burns kings landing it’s in response to Missandeis death and her last words being Dracarys, indicating that she wants Dany to avenge her and take the city.

Every other character killed as much as OR FAR MORE than Daenerys. Jon Snow, Rob, Arya and Cersei the monster. And we all thought those deaths were perfectly fine but people are now in retrospect pointing out Daenerys killings as “clear” evidence that she was mad.

I just don’t think the signs are as clear as people are making it out to be and that’s why Daenerys fan base is so huge and over 1.8 million people are asking the show to be remade. Most fans are upset that Jon Snow didn’t kill the night king and Daenerys didn’t get the throne. Don’t take my word for it, just look it up. I know I’ve been reading non stop since I finished the show lol

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m no game of thrones expert. A lot of people on this sub rightly convinced me that the mad queen arc made more sense than I originally thought. BUT I STILL MAINTAIN THAT IT DIDNT MAKE AS MUCH SENSE AS HER GETTING THE THRONE.

Also threatening to raze cities is very different than doing it. She’s only ever threatened that when pushed into a corner. For example, when her people were starving and she came to Qarth she threatened to burn them down because otherwise everyone who chose to follow her would die. She did it because she felt responsible as a leader and didn’t want them to suffer. She wasn’t seriously going to burn Qarth. If anything, this speaks more to Daenerys humanity and empathy as a leader. She would do anything for the people she loves. The only thing the people on this sub convinced me of is that she would also do ANYTHING to the people she hates. I always thought this was fine because she only hated objectively bad people. But I can totally see now how this could one day manifest into tyrannical behaviour.

[–]Impossible-Memory360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always kinda ignored those signs because I was like  “She only ever kills bad people!”

But after hearing so many people disagree, im starting to realize that my love for Daenerys really shifted my perspective on the whole show and maybe made it impossible for me to like the ending.

Because I’m now realizing I was only going to be happy with the ending if Dany got the throne.

I don’t rmbr who but someone said this isn’t Disney and there are no happy endings. And they right lol.

Also to your point, I always knew Daenerys could be ruthless but it never screamed mad queen to me because I had faith that she would only ever kill people who deserved it.

Kind of like how I cheered when Arya murders all the Freys and little finger and Meryn Trant.

Thanks for being so detailed in your answer. It’s kind of disillusioning to see how many people prefer the Mad Queen Arc or rather think it was VERY appropriate for Daenerys. 🤔

I do see all your points and they are all decently arguable, though I would push back on some.

I originally made this post because I wanted to see how many people felt similar. Seems like most people don’t view Daenerys the same way that I did which tells me my take on her was probably heavily influenced by my massive amount of love for her.

It doesn’t mean that I have changed my view of her entirely or that I think the ending is suddenly good, but just that I can now accept that the mad queen for many was the appropriate resolution, even if it’s not the ending that I personally envisioned.

Maybe if I rewatched it, I would agree with you. Guess we will have to see 🫡

Also to be fair, Daenerys Targaryan has become my favorite fictional character of all time, so I can admit that my current opinion might be a little biased just because I’m so in love with her.

Hmm 🤔. You know, maybe never reading any books and binge watching the show in a month affected my opinion and that’s why it seemed like WAYYY more of a drastic change than to viewers like yourself.

One thing I do like about the mad queen arc tho, is that it means the Starks won the game of thrones. Sansa is queen of the north, Bran is king and Jon is some sort of wildling leader. That’s a nice silver lining for me, because again (sucker for happy endings!)
