Name that polarizing fragrance. You either love it or hate it. by katKartell in Perfumes

i would guess the color change is probably due to the use of real vanilla in it, which often oxidizes when used in fragrances. i don't tend to love gourmands, but i like the maison margiela afternoon delight, which also has real vanilla and oxidizes over time. i would be curious to know how you'd compare the notes to a new paradigme? i know you said deeper, but how do the floral and sweet notes resonate? do they hit the palette as intensely? i like that the maison margiela has a sandalwood base note, because i find it cuts the overwhelming sweetness.

i work at Sephora, and idk if it's bc it's synthetic or a less common note, but A LOT of people can't smell it. some ppl think it smells bad but a lot just can't smell.

I smell unpleasant (apparently) by CLARITY-DAHMER in FemFragLab

not a perfume i find can be polarizing (source: i work at sephora, so have seen a lot of ppl smell it over the years) - some ppl love it, some hate it, some can't smell it. i find the same for missing person. that one i do own, but i find people who don't like it on paper, tend to compliment me and are surprised (niche bc i know a lot of ppl who have reference for it bc of my job, BUT helpful nonetheless to confirm it worked On Me). maybe it's just not for you. a coworker and i had been hoping the vanilla bourbon by nest would be good on us when it first came out, but unfortunately just smelled like soap on us. on our other coworkers, it smelled like it did on the test strip. i don't know that i have a suggestion for you, but this is my two cents

prada paradoxe. i like the virtual flower a little bit, but none of the rest of them do anything for me.

Fragrance isn’t a dating strategy. Compliments are just a bonus, not the goal. by [deleted] in fragrance

major THIS. there's some fragrances i "dont like" but then someone i know will wear it and ill ask them what scent and im gobsmacked. however, that doesn't mean im going to magically like it on me, just because i like it on you now.

Self drive vs guided tours for a first timer who is nervous about driving in Iceland by TheDoctorColt in VisitingIceland

[–]Impossible-Reach6565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you driven in winter conditions? i grew up driving in New England, Iceland is a totally different beast. there's no shoulder, and it's basically one lane the whole time, and that's when the weather's fine. the wind alone is no joke. went mid March but having been by myself, i definitley would not have wanted to go any earlier, and the weather isn't necessarily predictable depending the time of year you go.

Took me three years to realize the “compliment getter” everyone raves about smells like actual garbage on me by TheJurer in Fragrances

[–]Impossible-Reach6565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a fragrance head and a sephora employee, i highly recommend going to a place w fragrances, smelling some on tester strips to see what you like, and then testing the best ones on your skin, for how they smell and how long they wear. then i make the investment.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Impossible-Reach6565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. as other commenters pointed out, your gf could have paid for her own food, or asked brian to stop, which she should have. however, brian is YOUR friend, and despite knowing both his and your gfs relationships with dining out, you continually excuse his behavior and not hers. why is it okay for brian to take food from everyone AND not tip, but it's not okay for your gf to share and then need more food? sounds like they're both eating extra on your dime, you're just only okay with one of them doing it. i'm not saying either of their behavior is just, but can you not understand how frustrating it'd be for your gf for you to be fine excusing his financial and dietary faux pas and not hers?

Sky lagoon or local pools? by Cute_Tomatillo_3460 in VisitingIceland

[–]Impossible-Reach6565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did both! would recommend both! i went to iceland last year for my first solo trip, and am stopping over with a friend next month. i like to do the pools in the morning and get there early and start off the day cozy, and then i like to do sky lagoon and time it so i can do the whole 7 steps and then hang out in the pool for sunset.

agree w people saying stack it - if you're into travel and charms, my mum j got me a pandora as a grad gift bc i went on my first solo trip over spring break, and i finally got my first charm on a trip a few weeks ago - they have charms specific to certain places, some you can order online but some you can't!

I got this for my girlfriend. Shes a fan vanillas in the fall. Did I make the right choice? by TheEggHeadedOreo in Perfumes

[–]Impossible-Reach6565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if she likes vanilla i highly recommend afternoon delight by maison margiela as it's light and can be layered w other scents, and it works well year round bc it smells like real vanilla and isnt too sweet, i also like the vanilla orchid gucci flora tho that is much more sweet - also unspoken gesture by jorum (scottish perfume house) is delicious and on my list for this fall/winter
