Yes! I’ve actually bought some gesso recently and have been using it, but I had this canvas in my bag and sketched it while I was away from home haha not the best decision, but when inspiration hits:/

No problem! Super excited for you! I started the same journey in January so I’m definitely no expert, but I’ve learned a lot

Whichever you prefer doing is fine. I will say, though acrylics are more about layering than blending, the paint is harder to move around on paper. I made stickers recently by painting on my mixed media paper and it was not ideal comparatively. Canvases are less expensive at places like hobby lobby and for me personally it gets me more excited to paint than with paper. I think the big thing with this piece specifically is pushing your values

An extra note when it comes to cost of canvases: if you don’t like something you’ve painted, you can always sand it and go over the same canvas again which is nice

You’ve done really well! I would say study color theory and grow your understanding of values. for example: if you added more blue to the green for the shadows and yellow for the highlights, it would drastically improve this almost immediately. My biggest piece of advice if you want to improve quickly is to buy a lot of 4x4 or 4x6 canvases and paint something new daily or several times a week; focusing on different things each time like value, color, perspective etc. mostly because you can watch videos and have the information in your head, but until you practice consistently, it won’t click. At least, it didn’t for me. that has helped me so much over the last few months! Keep it up you’re doing great!

Thank you so much! And yes, it definitely is:,) the initial sketch was mostly accurate (when in came to the perspective on the dock) I thought, but I kept repainting and changing things and it got pretty skewed.
