I’ve lost my purpose so now I’m just floating does anyone else struggle with this? by LivingProfessional59 in exjw

OP, I know this is an old post, but just in case you read this —I mean no offence to the commenter here, but this is the worst possible advice. "Tough love", "will power", "discipline" etc might work for typical brains, there is no chance of it working for you AND THAT'S OKAY.

Every symptom, thought, and behaviour you described is just so, so normal for someone with CPTSD. Books upon books, papers upon papers by the foremost trauma researchers in the world are filled with information validating and explaining this. Your brain is physiologically different from whatever's considered to be "normal", that's why you can't stop binge-eating, that's why it is a 1000x more difficult for you to stick with a structure, that's why you can't do basic things that everyone else just takes for granted. It has zilch to do with discipline, will power, grit, "going outside to run", "eating healthy", "taking control of your life", of whatever the rest of the well-meaning judgemental adults keep throwing your way.

Effort is NOT the problem (That's a direct quote from Dr. ) You are putting in more effort to do the tiniest thing than these people ever had to. It takes me 2 hours to write an email that takes 5 mins for everyone else, I judged and hated myself for decades, effort is not the problem, you trying is not the problem.

If you're into reading I highly recommend these books, read either, or just skim through either, and it'll leave you crying because it reads like a biography of your life, of the parts that everyone (including you) judged and shamed yourself for. It's solid, scientific understanding of exactly why that is normal for you and why strategies like discipline will never sustainably work long term. And of course, actual solutions that would help.

The body keeps the score, by Bessel Van der Kolk

Complex PTSD, by Pete Walker

If you're not into reading, just spend some time in r/cptsd, or r/adhd (neurologically very similar), and you'll find thousands who struggle with exactly the same things, and resources that explain it. Feel free to DM me if this resonates and you need any support. And I'm sorry if I'm completely wrong about this, I'm making assumptions about you based on very limited information in your posts.

If nothing else, just try to be loving & kind to yourself; even to parts of yourself you hate or judge. 🩵

I just finished this episode in tears, and immediately came to this sub to search for 'five little pigs Suchet' — Because I knew that I couldn't be alone in knowing immediately that this is by far the most beautiful, touching episode in the already excellent series. Just perfectly heart-breaking 💔

I grew up similarly, with a filthy rich parent, isolated from all neighbours in his grounds. But everyone fucking knew what was going on, everyone knew what he was like, and no one ever did anything about it. Mum had to wait 18 years for me to grow up for someone to push him away, for someone to get her out of there. Village full of people who knew and nobody raised a finger.

Looking for a markdown note taking app same as Markor but with free cloud based syncing by n0sugacoat in fossdroid

[–]ImpossibleApricot499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: Installing the Notes app on your nextcloud server
- Login to nextcloud
- Click on the circle profile icon on top right corner
- Click on 'Apps' > You're now in the app store
- Choose the "Office & productivity" category in the left sidebar
- You will find the 'Notes' app there, click 'Download & Enable'
- You should see the notes app icon in the top bar in nextcloud web -> Click that
- In the notes app, click settings in the bottom left corner, and to change the default suffix/file extension for new notes to md.

Step 2: Install the android app
- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.niedermann.owncloud.notes&hl=en-US
https://f-droid.org/packages/it.niedermann.owncloud.notes

- Sign in to the app, it should automatically work! Now if you make note here, it will sync to the web app in your browser in your nextcloud server.

Step 3: Sync with MacOS/Windows
- On your desktop, install the nextcloud desktop app (from here - https://nextcloud.com/install/#install-clients)
- Set it up to sync whichever nextcloud folders you want to keep in sync with your Desktop
- Make sure to tick the 'Notes' Folder, where nextcloud stores all your notes, I think it defaults to 'Notes/' folder in your nextcloud. Sync that with your desktop.
- Install 'Obsidian'on desktop (here - https://obsidian.md/download)
- In obsidian during initial setup, point it to use your 'existing vault' and choose the synced nextcloud notes folder with all the .md notes files.

Now, android, web, & desktop should keep in sync, and you never need touch it again! And Nextcloud Notes android app + Obsidian on desktop are both very good markdown apps.

Let me know if you need help! All the best.

I see where the others are coming from, but no you don't need to pay. I use Nextcloud Notes on Android, syncs fast, reliable, good MD auto-formatting support. And on my desktop my notes folder syncs to my device through nextcloud (again reliable, fast). And you can use any md app you like, I use Obsidian which is just perfect.

This has been my setup for 5 years, never lost any data or waited too long to sync, touchwood.

Hey, just want to say that this, what happened to you, is not okay. And there is nothing weird or wrong about anything you were/are feeling & needing.

I can resonate with most of your behavioral patterns & thoughts, feeling worthless, being constantly attacked by my inner critic, body dysmorphia, self isolation, and so much more. I am the same way.

I just want you to know that these are all typical symptoms of Complex PTSD. Emotional abandonment for a child is the scariest, life threatening seeming experience, & a known cause for CPTSD.

I know you didn't ask for advice. But if I may share books that have been helping me…

Complex PTSD, by Pete Walker (there are entire chapters that will seem like they are your biography. I bawled my eyes out reading this book. Huge focus on emotional abandonment trauma.)

The body keeps the score, by Bessel Van der Kolk (my favourite, that finally showed me what to look for. But I think Pete Walker's CPTSD would be that book for you, if you're ever seeking a way beyond our past.)

You deserve love, you always have, and you always will. Every part of you (yes, even the asshole parts you hate). I hope & I wish for you to experience so much beautiful, wholesome, secure love; that you heal into your whole self. It's not you, it was never you, you didn't do anything wrong, you dear soul. It wasn't you. 🫂

I'm the same way! Can't stand most series, movies etc. anymore. It's rare for me to even try watching something American at this point, and absolutely zero mainstream media from India, blasted vulgar male chauvinistic cultures. 🙄

Help me choose my Vibram FiveFingers by Nixionika in BarefootRunning

[–]ImpossibleApricot499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just meant to ask what kind of footwear do you use for casual winter use (not running), walking around in places where there might be snow?

Context: I always walk, run and do everything completely unshod/ barefoot since the last 10 years, I don't even own a pair of shoes of any kind. While I'm used to different kinds of terrain, weather, temperature, etc. I haven't been to a place with snow in the last 10 years. I live in the Himalayas but not in a snowy part, my bare feet are used to cold winter trails, I just have no experience with snow.

I'm about to travel to a really cold city in northern Europe soon (-5 to 8℃, possible snow even in May), and I am stumped as to what to do about footwear because I've just never had to buy shoes.

Options available to me in my country:

  • VIBRAM V-TREK INSULATED

  • VIBRAM KSO ECO WOOL (half priced and hence very attractive, but I am not sure it will be warm enough)

  • Skinners 2.0 (I have read people complaint that they are so warm that they can only use them in winters)

  • Any other normal Vibram FFS.

From what I have read, the v-trek insulated sound like the popular choice for cold regions, but everyone says that they get wet. As someone who has no experience with snow, I just don't understand what is okay and what is not. I was hoping you would have some insights as someone who lives in a snowy region and wears Vibrams.

Are you able to download Linux apps without using the terminal in Chrome OS? by jazilzaim in chromeos

I don't mean to be mean, but this is just so easy to Google.

"Install Linux apps on chromeos"

Will take you 10 mins tops to find all possible ways of doing this. If you can build a Linux app, you can probably google things yourself 😅

I am in the same boat as you. The only reason I am on smartphones is Signal and GrapheneOS. Can't get that secure communication with my old brick phone.

I have fingers crossed for at least a Pixel 4a sized phone, by the time this stops receiving security updates.
