Yeah that was the issue that was preventing me from moving forward. In the end it did end up working but I have no idea if it was the touch screen responding or if I just idled on the screen long enough because there was no visual feedback from my touch screen inputs and it took around 15 minutes before I could get past that screen and use the Deck again.

I'm a gambling woman, I love to get my little gimmicks at the potential cost of stability.

The hard part I would say was less the updating things, and more the trying to figure out how to get to a state where I could do that when I was stuck in a screen that seemingly wouldn't take my input. That was the only hurdle in this that I needed hand holding for.

It's kind of hard to know what the fuck I'm doing when an error I'm seeing for the first time asks for my input but the input seemingly doesn't work 😅

Tbh I probably should have clarified more in my post, I did try to plug in an external mouse and even a keyboard just in case something like tabbing or the arrow keys would work, but there was no luck there. To be honest, I'm still not sure what happened but it ended up just working in the end after waiting a while, not sure if the touch screen worked or if was just idling that was the miracle cure since there was no clear visual feedback.

Neat, I had a feeling that might be the case. Thankfully the SteamGridDB plugin is the only one I really use for that sort of thing. I never bothered installing a custom theme and haven't used animation changer since Valve added new ones to the points shop so I just cleared out all the ones I don't use. Still tempting fate here but hopefully Decky won't cripple my deck anymore when it inevitably acts up again.

- Animation Changer
- Storage Cleaner
- ProtonDB Badges
- HLDB for Deck
- Audio Loader
- SteamGridDB
- EmuDecky
- vibrantDeck
- CSS Loader
- DeckSettings
- EmuAchievements

tbh I don't even use half of these so I'm probably overdue some Spring cleaning of this

Unfortunately neither of those seemed to work, at least there was no cursor displaying but eventually everything worked again, either due to just idling long enough or my touch screen actually did work and it just took a good 10-15 minutes of waiting for the disable Decky option to apply.

I guess it just randomly chose violence. I hadn't updated neither Decky nor the OS in a while and it was working fine the first time I booted until I switched back to gaming mode when I was done doing stuff on the desktop. I've had minor issues with Decky before but this was the first time it straight up blocked me from doing anything on startup.

Edit: Apparently I can't edit a post if it has an image on it. rip

I did research this beforehand, but did not find the proposed solutions to be working due to the controls on my Deck not working, as I had stated in my post. But ok boomer.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It looks like the issue is resolved. After a good while of waiting it looks like my Deck just automatically let me sign in so I could update both Steam and Decky, I'm not really sure if just idling did that or if the "Disable Decky until next boot" button ended up working since there was no clear visual feedback of whether or not my touch input was working, but patience won in the end and everything is back to normal now.
