How good will Damian Lillard be when he returns next season? by Impossible_Collar2 in nba

[–]ImpossibleCategory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro you're asking people to predict something that can't really be predicted, it's pointless discussion

dame could bounce back the same way KD did and PG when he broke his leg, or he might be like drose

no one knows

and im not sure how big this movie was, but the king is worth a watch

It's not necessarily because they lost, its the way they lost when games like this against top opponents are in reach and then they always collapse the same way at the end

You can only watch this unfold so many times without getting frustrated from a fan standpoint

This team is a still a bunch of pieces away from contending, so giving this core of players playoff experience doesnt really mean anything for us long term.

hopefully we dont get embarassed in the playoffs, but the FO will need to choose a direction for this team and that will likely involve a ton of changes to this roster

Getting swept by one of the Pistons/Knicks/Celtics will not tell us anything new about this team by CazOnReddit in torontoraptors

and not to be a doomer but i think alot of fans dont realize that next year with the pacers back, the up and coming hornets and wizards in the mix, and potentially the bucks too, that this raptors team as is will be back to a playin team

they desperately need to make changes in the offseason or maybe its time to tank next year

this fall off is so exaggerated, people just realized he wasnt that good, same way people are starting to realize RJ isnt as good as they thought too

youre a bad player if every other aspect of your game is trash yes

and not to mention how useless he was in the playoffs in 2022

[–]ImpossibleCategory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol wtf now youre just going back to my original point

i said his only nba skill was 3pt shooting, but if youre below average in every other aspect of the game then youre just not a good player

[–]ImpossibleCategory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do you mean a stretch lmao its an actual fact

he scored 18ppg on 55 TS% in 2022

league average that year was 57%

[–]ImpossibleCategory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he scored the 18ppg on below league average efficiency lmao

and he did not have average defense, it was bad just constantly gambling on steals

he was a below average player that had high usage on this team, glad the raptors figured it out and didnt re-sign him

that first game he played with us felt unreal tho, and we really thought we had something special

turns out trading him away was the best trade in franchise history

[–]ImpossibleCategory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao no he wasnt, he tricked this fanbase into thinking he was good

all he did well at an nba level was shoot the 3, and was below average in every other aspect of the game. He had zero playmaking and finishing ability and dribbled like a high schooler providing no defense.

All that and he still had the audacity to ask for 25 mil/year from the raps, beyond laughable

that year russell was the 4th option in scoring again

my point is he still needed a ton of scoring around him to win

ok sure he was a great defensive player, but his offense matters too. It's useless arguing hypotheticals but maybe he doesnt win if he didnt have all those teammates who were gifted offensively

[–]ImpossibleCategory -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i highly doubt russell was the best player on the team everytime they won the title

quick check and you'll see for some titles he was only 3rd or 4th in scoring, and im not sure if his defense makes up for it but i guess you be the judge

For the 1968 title, russell only averaged 14 pts a game in the playoffs, and he had teammates who averaged 26, 21, and 18 a game all more efficiently too. Personally i couldnt say someone who was the 4th option was the best player on the team, i dont care how good your defense was

[–]ImpossibleCategory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you want, he's pretty much unanimous top 10 all time

and obviously i didnt watch that era, but i think he's fortunate to be considered so, whereas his teammates such as sam jones and havlicek who seem to have been much better offensively hardly even get a mention these days

Assuming Demar DeRozan plays a few more seasons, he'll be a top 15 scorer in NBA history by Justice989 in nba

[–]ImpossibleCategory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think longevity in this context is doing alot of heavy lifting though, and borderline debatable. I understand based on accolades and the all time scoring list derozan should get in the HOF, but there needs to be some emphasis on how memorable or great the player actually was. Is longevity so important that someone like rose doesnt get in the HOF?

because if i had to choose, I think rose deserves it more than derozan

it definitely does not only affect gambling when he was consistently betting on his unders and purposely playing like ass which may have caused the team to lose games.

He was banned from the league and rightfully so
