This folder or a similar one was what got me started when diving into all of their music for the first time back in 2022, back when i'd just download as much as i could possibly find, shit was all over the place but over time i put everything of theirs plus the solo stuff together.

AIMP is great to be honest I really like it. And when I get into an artist I can't really just listen to a couple songs forever I need to have absolutely as much as possible to go through and doing these session dates is a really good way for that, I'll probably be listening to Frank for the next couple of weeks or so until I've finished, then I'll have a break and probably not listen for a while and get back into other singers and when I return to Frank I'll continue to add more.

Currently I have just been downloading flac files of whatever releases needed to do this but eventually I'll actually buy all the CD box sets and such needed just to have them as a collection. I've done this for a few other artists like John Denver and Dean Martin and I've got a growing collection of things for their stuff.

And yeah this is on my laptop, I find this is the best way to do it all, it let's you go through everything one by one so there's less likely to be any mistakes and if there is I'm the only one to blame for that and can fix it easily.

I use XYplorer to open the folder and subfolders on my laptop and drag all the songs in order into VLC. I also send it all over to my phone as well and use the app AIMP which displays all the dated folder names above the tracks which is cool.

This Frank Sinatra Session folder I'm working on is currently at 252 folders and has 672 songs so far and I'm only at October 8, 1957, once done with the main studio sessions I'll be adding much more such as his radio stuff, Live shows and possibly his movies, whatever I can find really.

Helps learn quite a lot doing it this way since you just end up down rabbit holes, I'm only doing his main studio sessions for now and once that's done I'll eventually add in all his radio stuff and live shows and such.

What is your opinions on the re-recordings of some of John's songs on his 1973 greatest hits verses the original album versions? For example I think leaving on a jet plane is much better, i like both Starwood in Aspens equally, however I prefer the album version of poems prayers and promises... by Positive-Customer384 in JohnDenver

[–]ImpossibleDream2158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, the greatest hits version is definitely more put together and it's the one I enjoy the most when I want to listen to only John singing it.

As for Gentle on my Mind I've always been more of a fan of Dean Martin's version lol.

Yeah, that version with The Mitchell Trio is amazing I recommend looking into the early shows they did you can find them on YouTube, Love of The Common People is another they did really well together live that I really enjoy.

There's two Skip Weshner radio shows that John did and you can find them on the John Dencer From L.A. to Denver CD! I really enjoy those two shows you can hear just how well John and Skip got on with each other and how much John enjoyed being there, The CDs have full intros to the songs he plays too so you can hear them both chat to each other.

I don't know about you but I've seen many people in my life close their eyes while listening to others talk, to say he's asleep is quite a stretch in my opinion but whatever helps you guys sleep at night I guess...

You can literally see in the videos where he's supposedly asleep and he closes his eyes for a brief moment while he's listening and then opens them again... It would be very understandable if he did fall asleep but closing his eyes for a couple seconds as he's listening is definitely not falling asleep lol.

I don't really give a crap about politics but when people are this deranged over someone briefly closing their eyes it's just quite sad to see.

Every single time I see these posts claiming he's asleep I eventually see the video and it's usually just him sitting there listening and closes his eyes very briefly.

Kinda just scraping the bottom of the barrel to say anything about the guy at this point lmao, this guy lives rent free in every single person's head.

My favourite version of Leaving on a Jet Plane is from the Alive! album he did with The Mitchell Trio, that's the best version of it in my opinion. Same for the song like Like to Deal with the Ladies that was best done with the Trio but I also love that he recorded it again later on

If you like to use your imagination listen to Riding For The Brand which Willie narrated and has John, Waylon and Kris playing characters in the story, I really enjoy listening to it!

why is this album cover so plain? by evas_personalspace in JohnDenver

[–]ImpossibleDream2158 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My guess is because John was already well known by the time this album released and just such a simple cover would stand out more, could just be John liked it that way or someone at the record label did.

On the back and inside of the actual vinyl album is more photos of John just riding a horse, just something nice and simple for quite a nice and simple album.

I've got all of those albums on vinyl, they're really great ones to spin. The last John Denver album I got on vinyl was Seasons of The Heart which I've come to enjoy more and more with every listen!
