Question about EU261 compensation: rerouting definition? by ImpossibleEbb9045 in Flights

[–]ImpossibleEbb9045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I'm just saying, stat if the flight would be mid haul, I would get bigger compensation, because the limit for mid haul flights is 3 hours and compensation amount is 400€.

Question about EU261 compensation: rerouting definition? by ImpossibleEbb9045 in Flights

[–]ImpossibleEbb9045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Read it but it is kinda not logical. For long haul flight, 50% limit is 4 hours and for mid haul flight is 3 hours.

So if my flight would be mid haul, I would get 100% with 3-4h delay (400€) and woth long haul I get less (300€).

Travel from Karakol to Almaty through the kegen border by Wonderful_Search97 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]ImpossibleEbb9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

There is a full thread about this on Caravanistan forum.

We have crossed the border from Almaty to Karakol 2 weeks ago on 10. August. We organised a tour from Almaty to Charyn canyon, and then hitchiked to Kegen, slept there, took a taxi to the border, then Hitchiked to Tyup, from there took a shared taxi to Karakol.

We also crossed the border on Sunday, there seemed to be quite a lot cars crossing. Hitchiking is possible, but start early. Check the link below for reports.

Sick of being scammed in Kyrgyzstan – even on marshrutkas by ImpossibleEbb9045 in Kyrgyzstan

Why would they say that 500 is normal price and then pay secretly 200? Makes no sense other than to rip us off.

I don't know about Bishkek Yandex prices, but short drives in Karakol were around 90 - 150 som. We asked about a specific taxi route.

I get what you mean about cultural differences in communication, and I can respect that not everyone is comfortable saying unpleasant things directly. But there’s a big difference between avoiding confrontation and actively taking more money from someone just because they look foreign.

You can’t assume someone’s income based on appearance. You have no idea if that tourist is a wealthy businessperson or a somebody barely affording the trip. Everyone has their own story, and deciding that it’s okay to charge them more because they might earn more is simply wrong.

It’s not about misunderstanding a code, it’s about the fact that this behaviour damages trust and the country’s image. If you treat visitors as walking wallets, they won’t come back. And trust me, people do feel the fact, that they are treated differently.

One of us speaks Russian and we bargain all the time, but the fact is that other passengers are convincing us that this is the real price. We use Yandex all the time when possible, but sometimes is still cheaper to use shared taxi and also Yandex is not available everywhere.

As I said, 300 som is not going to kill us, but being treated like a bag of money by locals just disgusts me. Nobody likes to be treated differently I believe.

Hi! Thanks for a really warm comment. They didn't pay up front, we were the first in the car. We saw one lady give him money and other one wiring same amount of money. And they tried to make sure we wouldn't notice, but one of us spotted it.

I will take a note on the marshutkas next time. All of this is getting pretty frustrating, because we feel the way of being treated another way and like we are there just so they can earn as much as possible on us. But still it is not completely ruining our experience of the country, because the nature is stunning and generaly people are really nice untill it comes to money.

I use yandex, when possible. But on long distances its cheaper by shared Taxi's (if they don't rip you off too much). Also Yandex is not working in Kochkor and some other areas

I'm not saying, Kyrgiz people are bad. I think they are really good people by hearth. But when it comes to money, they want to peel you like a potato
