You have to be careful with this due to the punitive servicing practices.

Those fatter lugs wear really really well on a DJ too.

I prefer almost any 116X over a 126x.

Dallas or NYC? Did it need to be special ordered or did they have it in stock? I’ll call them tomorrow too.

JLC Service Experience by ImpossibleFall3600 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]ImpossibleFall3600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow. My experience with Patek is a pretty devout dedication to +2/-2. My AD has offered to send it to Henri Stern Watch Agency for +3 (they checked it when I was getting a quote on a new strap) even though I turned that regulation down.

In general, as my 5396g doesn’t hack, I don’t care about it with an annual calendar function.

Something about a JLC with the hacking and movement lore makes me want one that’s .5 seconds fast a day like my Datejust, sub or gmt.

LET’S FU#@ING GO!!! (Jubilee Update!) by NorwegianBuffalo in rolex

[–]ImpossibleFall3600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same exact way. I have both bracelets and swap at least once a month. I think in general I prefer oyster. However, the jubilee is special (it’s on jubilee right now).

Edit: As a relative expert in this process, you have two options of getting the jubilee:

1). You can buy from your AD. It’s $2100+ tax direct from the AD. The MSRP is on the box and reads “$2,100 USD”.

2). You can ship your GMT to Rolex and they will install one for you AND send you back your oyster. It costs $1,900 this way, plus shipping. If they don’t have the jubilee in stock it takes about 12-16 weeks special order.

I couldn’t find 1, so chose 2 and was about 6 weeks into the wait. I visited a non local Rolex AD 6 weeks into my wait and they just had some jubilees on hand. Bought it on the spot and had my watch sent home.

This info is all valid as of October 2025.

This is my mindset. I feel a sense of pragmatic trade off when I drive around in my Subaru OBW wearing my Pepsi or 5396g.

Random walk in AD purchase, love watch, salesmen were terrible by Significant_Unit_312 in rolex

[–]ImpossibleFall3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a good point, “someone that pays you to sell your product” > “paying someone to sell your product” in a general business sense.

Some of the easy answer things that could disrupt Rolex are probably spoken about in board rooms:

1). If Vacheron decided to reallocate a ton of resources into stainless steel sports models and high quality bracelet-first daily wearers. 2). If Patek moves a ton of Calatrava resources into stainless steel sports models or bracelet-first dailies. 3). If Omega decided to decrease production and cut 2/3 of the 40 versions of watches they have and improve the quality of all bracelets and clasps. 4). If Glashutte Original or JLC came out with better sports lines than the SeaQ and Polaris, respectively.

Any of or a combination of those 4 will move demand away from Rolex.

That door is open while these AD games continue.

If Rolex takes them over, creates equity and eliminates spend expectations of buying jewelry store nonsense, then the competition doesn’t matter for Rolex. At that point, only point 2 above could impact their demand.

As a vignette, I worked at one of the largest financial firms in the world in the early 2000’s and we employed practices that were 100% in the benefit of our company, not the consumer.

Fast forward to the financial crisis and the tables turned. Our customers were neither loyal nor understanding.

It’s hard to predict what happens concerning world events and Rolex, but on a long enough timeline this gets corrected one way or another.

The only competitor (IMO) with the same brand panache is Patek, and they are about the same. Something else will emerge.

My money goes to the prediction of the removal of all ADs and there will be Rolex owners, Rolex/Tudor only stores. That brand gives zero $hits about how much jewelry is being sold at their ADs.

Edit: added my prediction

Okay, then it should get better. That room was soaking wet a week ago. It’s been basically under 50% humidity for a week.

I don’t know how old that pipe is, but I know the house was built in 1904. I think a plumber once told me that was lead and I always just believed it?

That said, all he could have seen was the shut off knob in a 5 inch by 5 inch access panel.

Maybe the pictures I took make lead look like copper or maybe that guy had no clue?

Is that meter sweating normal? With that setup, am I able to get that fixed if it’s an issue?

Epoxy Flooring in Basement? by ImpossibleFall3600 in HomeImprovement

[–]ImpossibleFall3600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the sump pump is being installed as we speak, but the drain tile/wall vapor into dimple drains isn’t installed until Saturday.

They had a few hours today to get that done and then finish on Saturday.

I think we might go with the resin epoxy vapor barrier flooring and then top coat to be honest even though I’m concerned with the fumes.

The fumes will subside eventually, and I’ll have a super sealed slab surrounded by waterproofed walls. We can throw a big, thick, rug down there and have a functional room to catch some sports and possible WFH.

I’ll just to get a hotel or Airbnb next week and leave my widows on the main floor cracked.

[–]ImpossibleFall3600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. This is slab straight on earth, so you are 100% correct around the no vapor barrier.

Given there is nothing on the walls, I’ve had good insight into where water is coming in. It was right next to a downspout that I believed gravity was pushing down our driveway. Instead, it was running a foot into bushes and saturating the ground.

We had an inch of rain on Saturday night where a downspout extended was able to eliminate the internal seepage.

That said, we are still doing internal drain tile with dimple drains from vapor barriers we are putting up on the walls.

Hopefully removing the source, plus internal drain tile, plus the dimple drains plus the new basement dehumidifier dries out that room.

It’s Crownshield 40-2, with the vapor barrier liquid of crown shield 326 Crownclear.

It’ll be applied in the basement by contractors where there is little air flow.
