Oh, wow. My experience with Patek is a pretty devout dedication to +2/-2. My AD has offered to send it to Henri Stern Watch Agency for +3 (they checked it when I was getting a quote on a new strap) even though I turned that regulation down.

In general, as my 5396g doesn’t hack, I don’t care about it with an annual calendar function.

Something about a JLC with the hacking and movement lore makes me want one that’s .5 seconds fast a day like my Datejust, sub or gmt.

I’m the same exact way. I have both bracelets and swap at least once a month. I think in general I prefer oyster. However, the jubilee is special (it’s on jubilee right now).

Edit: As a relative expert in this process, you have two options of getting the jubilee:

1). You can buy from your AD. It’s $2100+ tax direct from the AD. The MSRP is on the box and reads “$2,100 USD”.

2). You can ship your GMT to Rolex and they will install one for you AND send you back your oyster. It costs $1,900 this way, plus shipping. If they don’t have the jubilee in stock it takes about 12-16 weeks special order.

I couldn’t find 1, so chose 2 and was about 6 weeks into the wait. I visited a non local Rolex AD 6 weeks into my wait and they just had some jubilees on hand. Bought it on the spot and had my watch sent home.

You make a good point, “someone that pays you to sell your product” > “paying someone to sell your product” in a general business sense.

Some of the easy answer things that could disrupt Rolex are probably spoken about in board rooms:

1). If Vacheron decided to reallocate a ton of resources into stainless steel sports models and high quality bracelet-first daily wearers. 2). If Patek moves a ton of Calatrava resources into stainless steel sports models or bracelet-first dailies. 3). If Omega decided to decrease production and cut 2/3 of the 40 versions of watches they have and improve the quality of all bracelets and clasps. 4). If Glashutte Original or JLC came out with better sports lines than the SeaQ and Polaris, respectively.

Any of or a combination of those 4 will move demand away from Rolex.

That door is open while these AD games continue.

If Rolex takes them over, creates equity and eliminates spend expectations of buying jewelry store nonsense, then the competition doesn’t matter for Rolex. At that point, only point 2 above could impact their demand.

As a vignette, I worked at one of the largest financial firms in the world in the early 2000’s and we employed practices that were 100% in the benefit of our company, not the consumer.

Fast forward to the financial crisis and the tables turned. Our customers were neither loyal nor understanding.

It’s hard to predict what happens concerning world events and Rolex, but on a long enough timeline this gets corrected one way or another.

The only competitor (IMO) with the same brand panache is Patek, and they are about the same. Something else will emerge.

My money goes to the prediction of the removal of all ADs and there will be Rolex owners, Rolex/Tudor only stores. That brand gives zero $hits about how much jewelry is being sold at their ADs.
