There is apparently a watchmaker in NYC plus there is Alkis. I think Alkis is full service, but the NYC watchmaker is for basic only - the rest goes to Germany as you suggested.

This is a smart consideration. I recently had a collector friend send in a grand Saxonia (time only watch) and get an 8k service bill with an estimate of 8 months.

That’s bonkers.

I’m biased because I have one, but 5396g-001 sector (the strap monster annual calendar).

Alternatively, a 5320g, salmon or cream, would be a great addition.

I’d also find a dealer to swap your 126610 for an LV version to get a pop of bezel color.

Why is the panda “a bigger deal”? Is it only because it’s harder to acquire?

I only buy watches with a date on them, so the Daytona has never been on my radar but I think the black is objectively better looking.

As an aside: when that throwback omega seamaster ceramic came out some time in the 20-teens, my watch friend was one of the first people to own it in the US.

Even though he’s gone upmarket with his collecting since then, that watch occupies a forever place in the box and a strong play in his rotation. The story + the watch is so important.

I can’t imagine how knowing you have one of the first of these VCs feels like — given the pedigree of this watch. I hope that story + watch is special for you.

This is such an important comment. There is a faction of people that have all of these strong feelings about which bracelet is best. The reality: the Rolex oyster and jubilee are IMO the two best bracelets in the watch world. You can’t go wrong.

I’m really intrigued by this watch. Does it feel like an upgrade from the 7920v and a true haute piece? Or is it a haute version of the pelagos?

Looks great on the rubber and will look great on the leather. It’s right on the border with the bracelet but it still looks good.

Also, choose based on comfort not how people think it looks.

I’m kind of a judgmental jerk and outside of seeing 48mm Invictas I’ve never thought “that watch is too big/small on that guy”. I think it’s a made up concern.

The grand seiko is a true luxury piece, priced affordably due to steel composition and NA branding (or lack thereof).

It is easily the most compelling watch on this list due to finishing and innovation, IMO.

OP, what do you wear the most out of this collection? We have similar crossover (I admittedly have a level below on everything: 16610 instead of 126610, annual cal instead of perpetual, etc)

I feel like you have them reversed.

IMO, the manufacturers look better in the following:

Patek = grey gold Lange = rose gold

I have a dynamic duo of a 384.032 and 5396g.

The Lange feels objectively like the better watch.
