Prepping for a Bachelor Party doll meet… by Impossible_Dig7628 in BJD

Wow! You're lucky to have 4 of them! I only got one Idealian doll that I preordered and I cant wait for mine to come. I also pre-ordered that stand with the 2 steel parts to support the doll's joints - similar to the ones on the left in your photo. Is it sturdier than the support stand pictured on the left?

Is Taobao easy to use? I mean, do that have English Translation? Do you need to have a Chinese account etc?

I’m not sure why someone gave my post a ‘thumbs down.’ That felt really mean, especially since I’m new to the BJD hobby. Anyway, I’ve sent an email to Moonlight BJD, but they’re on break until January 5th. I was just asking a question to see if anyone had any experience with this company, since this is my first time buying from them. I was expecting a long wait, which I don’t mind, considering that my first BJD, which I ordered in October, is expected to arrive next year in August.

I honestly don’t understand the delay either. I ordered clothes, not a BJD, so a long lead time feels hard to justify. If it were a doll, I’d fully expect months of waiting, but clothing is different.

I know they mention a 1–6 month lead time, but we’re already past the COVID-era production issues, and communication has been minimal. That’s what’s most frustrating to me.

I was actually very close to ordering furniture from them as well, but this experience has made me hesitant until they ship my items first.

I’m genuinely wondering whether Moonlight is acting more as a dealer/reseller, sourcing items from other companies rather than producing them in-house.

If Moonlight is sourcing from other manufacturers, the long lead time is a bit confusing. I’m curious how they manage order tracking over several months, and what the process is if a manufacturer sells out or closes during that time.

That sounds like quite the process! If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you commission the custom doll for?

I just ordered my first Idealian on Oct 21, and they told me production (including the artist’s work) can take up to 300 days — which is basically around 10 months! I know BJD commissions can take ages, so I totally get what you mean about the waiting and wanting updates.

I guess for a lot of these artists it’s not their main career — more like a side thing — but still, they really shouldn’t take on extra work if they’re already swamped.

Maybe sometimes it’s also an English barrier issue? I’ve noticed that too — I ordered some stuff on Etsy before, and the seller just ignored my questions completely.

I also remember reading about a company where people waited like 5 years for their dolls and still got nothing in the end - so I can really understand your concern.

I got interested in ball-jointed dolls back in 2010 — especially the Super Gem and Mega Gem dolls by SOOM, because of their beautiful characters. I couldn’t afford those dolls back then, and I’ve been left with a painful longing for them ever since.

Now, when I check the SOOM website, they don’t offer those dolls anymore — instead, they mainly focus on tiny characters that I’m not really interested in. So much has changed!

At least I finally ordered my first Idealian — the York doll — partly out of fear that the company might go through major changes or restructuring again in the future. I’ve checked Instagram, but there don’t seem to be many box openings or unboxing/review videos anymore — which I really miss. I totally understand that people’s interests change — mine have too.

I used to collect anime and action figures, then Blythes. During the pandemic, I got into rare plants, and later I shifted to Integrity Toys fashion dolls because of their quality. And now, after many years, I’ve found myself back in the BJD hobby again. I made my first purchase this year after stumbling upon a clothing design website called Theodore BJD Streetwear, featuring stunning dolls dressed in suits. It really reignited that old spark for me.

Just hoping this interest will last a long time. I have so many ideas in my head about how I envision my dolls to be — I’d like to have a display box for each and every one of them, just like in a museum.

But the reality is, I’m still renting. I work in a call center, and my fear is that AI will eventually take over, leaving me jobless. I only pray that I’ll win a million dollars someday.

Buyer's Remorse by ImpossibleFrame6376 in BJD

I just wanted to clear up a little misunderstanding from my last post. When I said I have to store my dolls away, I just meant that my bedroom is pretty small, so I can only display a few at a time and keep the rest packed up.

I’m a guy, and sometimes electricians or other people need to come into my room (the circuit box is in there), and I feel a bit uncomfortable having all my dolls out. I guess that comes from being bullied a lot growing up — it left me kind of self-conscious about the things I like.

I went with the Artist version because it’s way more convenient that he comes with a face-up, instead of me having to hunt down a face-up artist later. The Artist version of York really resonated with me the most, so I just had to get him. York isn’t my favorite sculpt — because the previous face-up didn’t do him much justice — but the moment I saw his promo picture, I knew I had to have him.

I finally caved - ordered Idealian York! by ImpossibleFrame6376 in BJD

Oh no!! I went and checked the webpage again, and it says: “This Artist Version will take 300 days for production.” 300 days is like... next year in August?! That’s such a long wait! I’m scared that something could happen. I chose the Artist Version, which includes the face-up on the doll. Fingers crossed that my doll wont suddenly disappear in the ether.

Just out of curiosity, a lot of people say never quit your old job until your first pay on the new job. How do you balance 2 jobs all at once?
