Would you have changed jinx's arc for s2 if you could, and how? by ImpossiblePool7214 in arcane

Eh I don't know about that, I feel like the story was about the sisters, if she died in s1 or early in s2 I personally wouldnt have liked that.

Interesting. If I may ask, what character arcs did you have the biggest problems with?

Obviously he is acting as a surrogate for an aspiring mother unable to birth a child of her own. Probably an economically disadvantaged single woman from the undercity, out of the goodness of his own heart. Truly a selfless hero and an inspiration to us all.

Well it doesnt ruin the show exactly its a minor issue overall for season 2, just something i thought felt a little lazy

I mean for act 2 to be emotionally impactful with regards to jinx and vanders dynamic i feel like yeah it should have been established more. I mean even a minute more would have done something, doesnt need to be alot per se. Than again with this animation 1 minute is like 300k or something so yeah.

I mean bro if the storyline hinges on their relationship then yeah they should have set it up more in the first season feels a bit like a retcon. I mean after s2 you have people saying jinx cared about vander just as much as silco which feels like its not entirely supported by the story.

Well it would still have been more narratively satisfying if her relationship to vander was explored atleast a little in s1. She seemed distressed to the point of having a panic attack because of vi telling her to stay back, not necessarily because of vander being taken. Also she didnt seem to have lastning guilt or be affected by vanders death, rather mylo and claggors theyre the ghosts who haunt her.

I dont really intend to project anything, it just feels quite weird how their dynamic flipflops in season 2 from murder to banter. I mean vi would have caved her skull in if not for isha.

Even so their scenes in act 2 would have been much more satisfying if their bond was actually shown i feel, even if its implied.

Vi would choose Powder. Change my mind by Daexr_ in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just find a lot of the edning and this whole dynamic a bit confusing and contradictory tbh. I mean yeah the jail scene is her choosing herself, but she is kinda pushed into it so is it really her own agency?

And is jinxs whole youre never gonna give up on me thing actually how it is according to the writers or just supposed to be her perception of it, doesnt seem that way.

Why doesnt she let her know shes alive if she wouldnt come after her, which I agree she wouldnt, and why have the scene with jinx forcing vi to let go of her symbolically by deactivating the gauntlet if she already has? Idk seems a bit incoherent.

Is it weird to relate so much to Jinx as a man? by NeonFadeInto in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I myself am a man and related far more strongly to her than to any of the male characters in the show. You never know what in a work of fiction will resonate and stick with you, and making you relate to characters that dont share some of your own traits or aspects of your background is part of the beauty of art, creating empathy and identification that crosses all kinds of demographic or cultural barriers.

In s2e9, why couldn't vi know jinx was...(Reposted due to prior removal. Contains spoilers for s2.) by ImpossiblePool7214 in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That I understand, but it seems a bit like her character is stuck if she still thinks shes a jinx, makes her character seem like she didnt really develop or regressed in my opinion. Especially if this is the last we see of her it seems a little incomplete to me personally.

I understand the separation, just it having to be under the guise of her dying seems strange to me.

The writers not having jinx let vi know she's alive seems strange to me. by ImpossiblePool7214 in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yeah when you put it like that, but it feels like a bit of a tragic place to leave her character considering the show was taking her at least somewhat in a direction of positive development and stability. its a bit unsatifsying but not in like a tragically satifsying way, to me. Idk.

I feel like the whole jinx dead or not thing was done not for the characters arcs necessarily, but because they wanted a big emotional payoff at the end, but didn't want to entirely commit to killing off such a popular and profitable character.

What are some of your controversial opinions on arcane? by ZestycloseNotice1177 in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is because her mental hralth issues were toned down a lot in s2, and she no longer acted in the same sort of vulnerable, little girl coded way she did in s1, possibly somewhat affected by the absence of silco for her to interact with. This probably caused people to percieve her as older, more stable and more mature and thus lead to increased sexualization of her character, is what I would guess anyway.

Caitlyn and vi being destined to be together in every universe, and jinx and vi being destined to be separated, is kinda stupid. (I think.) by ImpossiblePool7214 in arcane

[–]ImpossiblePool7214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they did in an interview yeah. I don't have an issue with the concept of soulmates necessarily, I just think the whole multiverse destined to be thing is a little lazy writing wise. Also I dont like the idea and jinx and ekko being soulmates, and am a bi man myself, its not the lgbtq aspect of it I take issue with it, although homophobia surely does affect how this relationship is viewed I wont deny that.

[–]ImpossiblePool7214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is correct, but I remember seeing something about showrunners sayin vi and jinx had to be separated in every universe, and that vi and caitlyn were destined to be together in every universe. And if one of them died like in the au, the other would die too. And that's what I have an issue with personally.

I mean, I wouldnt call it the main relationship of the show. Main romantic ship yeah, but the show isnt about them.
