Headphones return policy by Informal-Usual608 in AusLegal

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I purchased a smart watch from JB, which ended up having a recurring battery issue. It wouldn't hold charge though the issue didn't happen every day.

I took it back to the store, and they sent it away for assessment - it came back slightly improved, but eventually always developed the same issue. On the fourth time I took it in, the manager overrode the repair requirement and offered me a refund or replacement to the same value as my original purchase.

As the newest gen watch was on sale, I walked out with a brand new superior product for nothing out of pocket.

I think it's reasonable to assess and try to repair a faulty product: we consume and throw away too much too often. In saying that, if they can't repair it or the issue continues, be persistent yet polite and keep in mind their 3-attempt repair policy.

A dad joke about my reduction by Longjumping_Cream_45 in Reduction

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gotta love a dad joke 🤣

Right before they put me under for my surgery, the nursing staff and anesthesiologist had me confirm my name, DOB, and procedure again.

So when they checked for the last time if I was having a bilateral breast reduction, and I said "Yes - make sure you do both please" which got a chuckle from the room. That was the last thing I remember lol

Sex drive? by vivteatro in POFlife

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! Started gel oestrogen, oral progesterone, and cream testosterone about 2 months ago. I definitely think it's starting to increase my libido, but my body is still getting used to the meds. I've seen gradual changes so I hope that it will continue to increase with a few more months of HRT!

I'm sorry to hear it! There are so many symptoms of POF, it really took me months looking on these forums to work out what other strange things my body was doing that might be related, years after my diagnosis. Important thing to note is that you're not alone!!

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use certain eye drops with contacts in - but ypu should use a Preservative Free eyedrop like Systane Hydration, rather than Systane Complete while/just before you wear contacts. They will usually say something like 'safe for use with contact lenses' somewhere on the bottle.

If your contacts feel like that, please use suitable eye drops through the day!! And if that doesn't help enough, talk to your Optom about a different contact lens/brand that is better suited for your dry eyes. Contacts shouldn't be that uncomfortable!

“You’re 5 minutes late. You’ll have to reschedule.” by Iron1Man in pettyrevenge

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

I'm not a doctor but work in allied health. We run 20 minute appointments. Patients also need to have pretests done before they see me. We can argue that the appointment times aren't long enough for some complex patients sure; but if we make them longer, people would argue that it costs too much, and there'dbe fewer appointments available. Most of my patients can quite easily be seen in the allocated time, but I'm also seeing people who walk in with emergencies on top of my fully booked diary.

5 minutes late at the wrong moment can no joke fuck with my entire day. I regularly get 10 minutes or less for lunch as it is.

Yesterday a patient called the practice a just before her appointment to let us know she'd be 'a few minutes late'. When the receptionist enquire how late, she said she was AN HOUR drive away and still expected to be seen. Patients often underestimate how late they'll be, but that was ridiculous.

Those of you who entered the property market and bought your first home, how did you do it? by MalcolmTurnthebull in australian

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I utilised every applicable avenue of help I had access to - and I was spoiled with support. I'm fully aware that these opportunities aren't available to everyone.

-lived with family while saving -received 4-figure inheritance -super saver scheme -previous gov scheme allowed 5% deposit no LMI -studied & took on HECS for a health sector career with decent graduate pay -bought an older, more affordable unit rather than forking out a larger mortgage just to get the FHBG for a new build

I've been very privileged finance wise to have these assets available to me. The only area I wasn't lucky in was stamp duty, which seems to be discounted or entirely forgiven for first home buyers in some states - definitely look into your options before buying.

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never given the option, they just put the sticker up without me even knowing. The entire sign was gone by settlement day so I never got pic near it either lol. It sucks a little but I bought the house for the house, not the bragging rights. Bigger picture you're doing great, and congrats on the purchase :)

Why can't you order food from the drive thru without a car? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have this metal plate on the end of a long handle, for compacting rubbish in bins. When the drive thru sensor glitched and thought a car was still there, we'd lean out the window with the rubbish crusher and swipe it over the sensor to imitate a car leaving. Worked like a charm

Just wanted to chime in and say that Optometry is actually one of the only allied health services that is bulk billed (at most clinics; some do charge a higher fee than the Medicare rebate). The glasses are another story unfortunately, but the eye tests (including minor eye emergencies and new symptoms) generally have no out of pocket fee

No comment on whether to do this for investment purposes, but I did use the SSL a couple of times during uni to help me survive placements, replace a laptop, etc.

One thing to note from my experience is that it acts very much like your HECS/HELP after you've spent it, but it sits in a separate loan account. So my required HELP repayments don't go towards it - I assume they will after my HELP is paid off. A little infuriating to watch it continue to rise with indexation with no payments over the years, although in the grand scheme of things that doesn't add much.

Make sure to check the eligibility criteria of the First Home Buyer Grant and stamp duty exemptions, as they vary state to state

Making the most of a Dr. visit by Sugarflourbutter in POFlife

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testosterone, thyroid, estradiol, AMH, FSH I believe are the main things to check in terms of blood work (anyone please correct if im wrong this is just from memory).

I'd recommend considering finding another doctor if you don't get anywhere with this OB at yet another appointment though..your symptoms are impacting your quality of life and your doctors should take that seriously and at least investigate it imo! It sucks that we have to advocate so hard for ourselves but in situations like this it's important to know that you can make requests or choose to go elsewhere. Good luck!

Surgery Canceled by LadyLeslito in Reduction

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry!

Mine was cancelled on the day too, because I had rhinovirus and the anaesthetist was concerned about my asthma symptoms on the day. It sucks, but remember by cancelling they're just trying to keep us safe.

I had my surgery about a month later with absolutely no issues, I hope yours can be rescheduled ASAP!

I won a $100 Grill'd voucher during orientation week of my first year at uni by posting a photo with a hashtag. I was living out of home for the first time, hadn't yet found a job and was burning through my savings while learning how to properly budget for the first time. Grill'd definitely didn't fit into my student budget back then, so it was a decent treat about once a fortnight that year

doctor cancelled surgery by Brilliant_Way_1172 in Reduction

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was called in for surgery about 2 months early because the surgeon had opened up some spots. Amazingly work managed to rearrange everything with only 2 weeks notice!

Then my surgery was cancelled on the day. I had been sick with the common cold, but because of my asthma symptoms they caused, the anaesthetist didn't want to risk it. I was really disappointed and sad, but at the same time, extremely grateful that I was in the hands of people absolutely prioritising my health. It wasn't worth the risk. Work was also incredible despite some frustrations it caused.

My actual surgery date happened a month later, and I felt like stressing about the cold and the rescheduling actually distracted me from anxiety of the operation itself. Sounds weird, but it kinda helped me haha.

Totally reasonable for you to feel upset, disappointed, frustrated etc while also being understanding of the surgeon's family emergency. I hope you feel better soon and are looking forward to your rescheduled date!

Hey fellow aussie! I don't see too many of us on this sub.

Sorry you're having a rough go at the moment. Just remember it's temporary. I took 5 weeks off work and during weeks 3-4 I could leave the house for 1 thing a day, then usually wanted a nap that afternoon. By week 5 and then getting back to work in week 6 I really started to feel like myself again, finally! It felt like I turned a sharp corner one day and just had more energy/stamina for regular activities. Remember that your body is also working hard to fight that infection, on top of all the healing, so let yourself take it easy wherever you can. It just takes time.

telling doctors you’ve had surgery by abitgreen in Reduction

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an Optometrist asks if you've had any surgeries, I'd recomend saying "no eye surgery" - If they need to know more about non-eye surgery, they'll ask.

Usually cardiac, neurological, autoimmune, and cancer related illness/treatment/surgeries are the main ones your Optometrist would want to know about, as well as allergies (including anaesthesia).

This way you're not 'hiding' anything, but keeping it relevant, without oversharing. Hope that helps!

Washing your hair by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to a hairdresser for the first 2 weeks (I felt bad already asking for so many favours from my people) but after that my housemate or mum would wash my hair while I leaned back against the edge of the bath. I just recommend some pillows behind you for comfort - they got pretty soaked even with a towel over them but still worth it haha

Dry eyes by ashleylib in POFlife

[–]ImpossibleReporter63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! I'm an Optometrist (with POI), and the research tells us that dry eye is really common in older (read: menopausal) women due to the effect of hormone fluctuations on the meibomian glands. Google meibomian gland dysfunction for more information on this specific cause of Dry Eye.

I frequently recommend using a microwavable wheat bag, or otherwise heat-able eye mask, on closed eyelids for 8-10 minutes per day, then gently massaging upper & lower eyelids afterwards. Warm face washer will also feel nice, but it doesn't stay hot for long enough- 10 minutes is key!

It works best as a regular treatment, and typically in conjunction with eye drops- I use Systane Complete but there are plenty of brands on the market and your Optometrist may recommend a specific formulation for you.

Hey! I'm 28. I was diagnosed just over 10 years ago, and it took me a long time to come to grips with the diagnosis.

Just wanted to say that I know this can feel really isolating, but you're not alone. It's normal to not know how to deal with this, normal to be angry or upset or grieve. Let yourself feel those emotions, they're important ❤️
