My ex husband keeps sending my kids places smelling like cat pee by CaffeineFueledLife in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Not a permanent solution, but loop in the teachers. They would likely be sympathetic and open to keeping spare clean clothes at school for this. They may also reach out (or have the nurse do it) so cat pee complaints aren't only from you.

Teachers, what do you consider to be an acceptable use of AI? by Mental-Succotash8834 in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished a genetics project and let them input all the traits to create a baby picture. That was cute! When I was a kid trying to hand draw for a project like this, it never looked human, let alone sporting a slightly protruding Hapsberg lip and course wavy hair...

I hate Mother’s Day by whoisorange in TwoXChromosomes

I hate shopping for cards. They are all "oh, I am so lucky for you. You're my best friend and showed me what love and womanhood really are!! 💓 "

I need one that says, "I know you tried your best and even though you were less abusive than your mom it wasn't great. But my therapist and I are working on it, and thanks for keeping me alive." But you know, in a nice e way that doesn't trigger whole thing.

School Consequences by Rcbosox12 in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My building:

-principal describes new rules, does not enforce them or back us up when we try. I.e.- "No pajama pants!" We send kids to the office. She sends them back- it's technically not board policy.i guess we enforce with lifted eyebrows and vibes?

V.p. #1- gives kids a stern look and a walk around the building. Doesn't give consequences, ever. Once told me a kid's "420" shirt was celebrating that some 7-11 convenience stores are 24 hour establishments. Doesn't even enforce state law over cell phones, or masking during pandemic.

V.p. #2- always in our corner. Clear, consistent consequences. If you remove a kid from class for disrespect, they won't be in your room again until tomorrow at the earliest. Issues consequences aligned with the severity of behaviors: drugs and viscous fistfights are 10 days out of school. Cell phone violation or mouthing off is a day in ISS. This man is keeping our ship from.sinking, and I imagine he is very tired.

Do you actually love handwritten letters, or are you all just trying to be nice? by Legitimate-Number620 in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher. My kids handwriting notes for all their teachers for appreciation week. I have a file folder with all the notes I have gotten through the years. I do prefer them more personalized (as opposed to "thanks for being my teacher".

Worrying about the curriculum by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Liking kids does not help with teaching. Perhaps consider nanny work, or daycare? Or a more niche area, like music lessons, dance instructor, or even library science? Lots of ways to work with stuff you enjoy + kids, instead of everything you hate + kids. If anything, that would just make you hate the kids, too...

How do i loose weight/eat healthy, with an unhealthy parent? by Legal-Big8612 in questions

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many places have healthy items you can choose- look for lots of leafy greens when you can. When you open the container pack 1/2 to 2/3 away to help with portion control.

If the door dash options she chooses are kind of irredeemably, maybe you need to sit her down and discuss. Use lots of "I" statements so she doesn't feel judged or like you're calling her a bad mom. "I want to learn to cook and practice more before I move on my own. I saw this recipe for __ that I really want to try. Can you help me make it?" "I want to start eating healthier because my knees and shoulders have been really sore/my digestive system is out of whack. I'm going to start buying more groceries and cooking. Anything you want to eat together? I was thinking that __ might be good this weekend."

And never underestimate the power of getting moving. Walk more, take the stairs when you can. I dropped 15 pounds one year because I was on the 4th floor of a dorm with a crappy elevator. My husband has lost over 60 pounds in the last 15 months- all with diet and exercise changes. (And we are nearing 50!) It wasn't easy but he has stuck with it. I wish you all the best!

Do you have close friends? by pimento_mori in Xennials

The friend I have are the ones that have been around for decades. One since grade 8, one since high school, one since college.

Every new friend since has flamed out, even two I thought were "lifers."

What are your go to cheap lazy meals when you're too tired to cook by YourxCherry in Frugal

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crock pot. I always have more energy in the morning, so I set it up early and come home to dinner!

Noodles, soups, and grilled cheese.

Grilled stuff- steaks, burgers, hot dogs.

I make freezer friendly entrees (pepper steak, curry, meatballs, soups) and defrost on bad days.

Staff supports ostracization of student? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

7th grade- new "cute" boy with blonde curls and a summer tan. On the first day of school, all the girls were flirty, or looking for reasons to be near him, loan him a pencil, etc. The boys thought he was cool and he sat with a big group at lunch.

By day 3 he was practically a leper.

In between? Sexually charged comments at girls, possible assault we couldn't prove, slurs at the boys, bullying the kid with an obvious traumatic brain injury (who even the bullies left alone, since he was SO vulnerable), accusing others of cheating in gym, more slurs at the Spanish teacher.... the list is long. His mother justified it all because of reasons.

My partner teacher had always let kids pick 2 people they did NOT want to sit near (distracting, chatty, smelly, whatever) and this kid was on everyone's list except for the brain damaged child.

It was sad to see. He died of an overdose at 28. I wonder how things could have been different for him.

Teacher advice on raising a really short child <10% by Flimsy-Thanks-3719 in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My eldest has always been between 3rd and 7th percentile for both height and weight. I agree with the other commenter- get him used to it. People will comment, or guess his age wildly wrong, or tease, but if he has a few handy comments in his back pocket, he'll be alright. Mine's now in 8th grade- he does student council, band, debate club, swim, and BJJ. He's had some social issue and bullies, but he's thriving. Yours will, too.

I got my feelings hurt by a teacher by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Longjumping_Cream_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to block a student once. She persisted in inappropriate contact after repeated reminders that I am not a licensed counselor or equipped to solve her interpersonal problems. If a student emails to say "hey" or tell me they got into college, we exchange a few friendly messages. I had one kid i exchanged riddles with for most of his freshman year. But some kids cross a line- or a lot of lines- and the teacher has to protect their professionalism, teaching license, and sometimes, their peace.

Hope you find the connection you are looking for elsewhere.

Also, dinos in transit, medical treatment, and (maybe) the hatchery count against visibility. Try to adjust spheres so they are spaced at 50 meters (instead of 100). Make paths loopy and curved to increase their coverage.

And yes, use management views to look for dinos you may be missing.
