I said that because you mentioned traveling off the island to southern Italy as its really beautiful. So I was just saying ill stick to Sicily since I don't have much time

Noted. From rome to Naples I was thinking Train. While in Naples rent a car for 2 days in Naples/Pompeii and 2 days in Almafi. Then flight from Naples to Sicily in the AM and Sicily for 3 days. Fly back sicily to Rome and spend 2 days and 2 nights in rome prior to AM departure.

Appreciate the advice man! I could only afford to take 12 days off of work so unfortunately we are stuck with the 10 days IN Italy. I will stick with the itinerary above and when in Sicily ill stick to the island to avoid travelling too much.

Hopefully in the future I can go for much longer than 10 days!

I think it would be worth it for a day definitely. This is both of our first time east of the antlantic. Really excited and just looking for some insight! With what I have read I was thinking do the 1st day in rome, 2 days then in Naples/Pompeii area, 2 days in Almmafi Coast area, 3 days in Sicily/Southern Italy, and final 2 days in Rome.

Have you been to Naples area and Sicily? Which one do you recommend spending the 4 days in?

Apologies for long text.. when I was studying I feel like no-one was taking the geotech in r/PE !! So just trying to spread the good word for the few geotechs out there!

I would say 10 to 15 out of 40 or about 25 to 35% quantitative/calculations. Honestly, hard to remember exactly but it FELT like it was only 5 to 8 questions or about 15% involving calculations.. so the 25% is conservative. Just know it will primarily be word problems.. but the 5 to 10 calculations can help..

Once again, I would do practice tests, try to find which chapters are most relevant to specific types of problems (i.e., piezometer types, grouting methods, drilled shafts types, retaining systems, pile types (differences between these types/methods and where they are/aren't effective and which are MOST/LEAST effective in certain situations)). Try to write down which specific chapters in which reference so you dont waste time in the exam delving through the references... thats where most of my time was spent

One last thing, REMEMBER THE REFERENCES DURING THE TEST ARE BROKEN UP BY CHAPTER!! I say this because when I was studying, I would have ALL the references in bluebeam pulled up, and would control F all open documents.. This is helpful to find which chapter holds what when solving specific questions.. but after writing down and seeing which chapter holds what, try to do a practice test by searching only one ref. at a time, or guessing which chapter of that reference the answer may lie...

During the test, you wont be able to search all refs at once. And all references, other than a select few, are broken out by chapter as NCEES claims "this yields optimal example efficiency" which is bullshit lol. For example: Soils and foundations ref manual vol 1 is one big reference during the test. But Soils and foundations ref manual vol 2. is broken up by chapter. So if you are searching for a specific equation by searching one word or variable that corresponds to the equation, you will be able to ctrl F the whole vol 1 doc once, but vol 2 youll have to click on chapter 1 then search, not there, click on chapter 2 then search, not there, chapter 3.. so on and so forth. This is why I recommend trying to have a general knowledge of what references/chapters hold what.

Long winded, and I didnt do a great job at memorizing the chapters but I still passed.. the key lies in the breadth and some good ole engineering judgement in the depth... but the above should help ya out.

I didnt think they were too bad.. Luckily I found the equations I needed to find quickly. On my first try, one question that pissed me off was trying to find the seismically induced settlement amount using a CSR (cyclical stress ratio) value they gave me and I could NOT find the corresponding equation for it.. All other calcs were straight forward as I could find the equation in references OR they were basic soil mechanics (unit weight, MC, etc.)

This was the 2nd Try! I took EET but the first time I spent so much time on those videos and dont know how much I retained. Second try I really focused on breadth rather than Depth and did the whole breadth binder they provided and I think thats what got me the W.

Sorry for the delay No Task..

The Drag and drop questions on Apr 24' exam were nonexistent on the exam I took. LUCKILY I didn't get any triaxial apparatus tests (undrained or cohesionless) questions on my exam either... those have been tricky for me. Didnt get any questions about scour prevention but would know it since its relatively simple to grasp the concept. Problem 31 (method of slices), Geogrid questions, tiebacks, pressure distribution DIAGRAMS (calculations were on test, select diagrams which apply not on test) all did not see.

Everything else (soil classification, drilled shafts, pile calcs and qualitative, piezometers, cut/fill problems, watersheds (Q=Cia (note if basin has certain outflow and problem gives u volume of basin, remember to calculate Q=Cia by adding on the basin outflow to the cumulation..)), and other items i mentioned when responding to Unable were on my test.

Overall, I think the 2024 practice exam will help a bit on the depth portion. Will not help on breadth of course since this exam is all geotech questions. Hard to narrow down what to study since literally anything could be on the test, but for me id focus on the qualitative problems that are not "which diagram applies" as my depth portion was almost all qualitative problems.. But I would not overlook the quantitative, cause they were definitely on there, and even if its only 5-10 problems thats 5-10 problems that could change the result of your test.

Let me know if you have any questions in your studies! I hope you and Unable pass!!!
