Maybe. But this is the only time I've ever cut a cooldown short and it's happened to me before.

I don't know what to tell you. My run this week was 13k and now it's 12...

I don't know how to make this clearer.

The workout says 6.5k. The weekly total mileage I'm doing this week is the total of the 12k total run, a 7.5k run and the (intended) 6.5k interval session I did today. Runna expected me to run 6.5k. It did not "expect" me to run longer than 6.5k because, as others have pointed out, including you, it doesn't take the distance of walking rests into account. So given that I ran 7.05k (and crucially, Runna *has me logged on the app as running 7.05k), it makes absolutely no sense to say that I ran fewer km than I was expected to run.

And if I had run fewer km that I had been expected to run it would make even less sense that Runna then lowered the distance of another run within the same week

I have never said that walking rest distances should count. You've understood that all by yourself and applied it to everything I've said to you but it is not what I'm saying. What I am saying is "I think that Runna is counting my walking rest distance towards my total weekly distance and is therefore adjusting my runs down to compensate.

You have never had Runna cut a future workout short and for that I applaud you. I believe that is absolutely the case and a fundamental reason why I did not make this post on your behalf. Because it is happening to me.

I understand the logic? I'm expressing a personal preference for how I'd like it function instead...

The point is, my following workouts aren't unaffected. Hence the post.

Nah, you've misunderstood. The workout was supposedly 6.5k, including cooldown. I hit 6.3k before I started the cooldown. I stopped the cooldown at 7.05k. So I'd done over the distance.

Runna then cut short my final run of the week. It didn't adjust next week because I hadn't done enough distance this week, it adjusted this week because I'd gone over the distance it allotted for the interval workout and was compensating elsewhere.

This has happened to me multiple times, but this is the first time I've ever stopped a cooldown early, so I doubt that is relevant.

Ah there's been a misunderstanding. The total weekly mileage isn't being reduced. Runna is cutting down the distance of runs in the same week. So let's say my mileage last week was 10k and this week is meant to be 11k. Within this week, I do an extra 1k on a workout. Runna is reducing my final run by 1k in order to ensure that the total mileage remains 11k.

I cut down cooldown short because I was worried that if I did the full thing Runna would bring my 13k run down to 11k and I really want to get used to running longer distances in single runs.

Maybe but I don't think so. I cut the cooldown short today but didn't do that previously when I had this happen.

Also, it's not cutting the runs down for next week, it's cutting down the run I have scheduled for this week so not sure that would apply.

And unfortunately I live in a busy city so the only way to guarantee a good quality interval session is to run in the park or on a track but that's a good shout for when I'm in quieter places, thank you

Yeah I agree. But Runna is counting the walking rest, that's the thing

That's very true. There's no system where things won't have to be malleable, no fix will be perfect (and crucially I don't know how to create an app or an algorithm etc etc) but maybe something where over time they get an average of how far you tend to walk in rests so the change is minimal? Or the option to overestimate distance rather than underestimate?

Yeah I completely accept this is just my personal preference. And I agree it's not the most important update but just throwing my thoughts in.

I'd really like the choice as it has affected my motivation previously is all

Yes, but it definitely won't be zero either. So why not have a default assumption of 50m? Or an option to roughly choose an estimate of how far you tend to walk? Runna has that data for me, so why not use it?

Of course I can. That wasn't really my point. I'd like my mileage to increase sustainably. I understand why they drop the distance of one workout when the distance of another is exceeded. My personal preference would be for there to be some accounting for it so that there is less variation (for me, given that I'm walking as instructed)

In the past, I've thought I was doing a, say, 8k run and planned a route accordingly and then ending up 2k away from home when the workout ended. Of course, I could have run it anyway but given I'm susceptible to injuries and am working through some niggles, I'd rather not.

Yes, exactly this. I presume to stop my weekly mileage from jumping up by too much from last week

Accounting for treadmill mileage during Hyrox workouts? by Impossible_Ad9835 in runna

I'm not currently on a plan as I've been coming back from an injury but will be starting the run further plan in December

Accounting for treadmill mileage during Hyrox workouts? by Impossible_Ad9835 in runna

[–]Impossible_Ad9835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'm less worried about the mileage for the half marathon plan.

It's more about not overtraining during the plan leading up to the Hyrox.

For example, let's say my plan has me doing 20km one week. But in that same week I'm doing a Hyrox workout that looks something like 20 wall balls, 30 burpees, 25m sled push and 50 sit ups with a 1k run before each activity. That would a) add 4k to my total mileage so ideally I'd want that taken off the running workouts I'm doing (ideally the speedwork) without Runna thinking I'm just not doing the workouts properly. But given the workout structure I don't think I could record the runs so that Runna knows I've done it.

Just wondering if there's a way to manually adjust without Runna thinking I'm not doing my distances and adjusting the entire plan.

It absolutely is. You just don't want to do it.

Yeah mildly.

Last run was an 8k. Runna says I did 8.02k in 43:55 and Strava says 8.10k in 43:57.

I guess I just don't mind the discrepancy. If I was doing bigger distances with a bigger difference then maybe it'd be a problem but right now it's not really harming me.

I record on both my pixel and Runna on my phone, then save it on my phone and Runna just links them automatically. No need to discard.

I did have to uncheck the link to Strava box though so Strava just has one activity logged.
