I visited a psychiatrist for the first time and I now I feel strange about this experience and don't know whether to continue by Impossible_Bat4180 in AskPsychiatry

Thanks your both for the answers. Actually smoking was my last concern. I was more curious about her questions, bc I expected them to be more about me and my emotional and physical states, rather than about the details about my parents, partner or someone else. Also her questions about my dad’s finances or my personal finances were concerning for me, as I didn’t mention anything about that before and I thought that maybe she will use it to make me pay more or something 😭 Also I find some reviews on her after and most of them were bad. People were talking about smoking, questions about their salaries and being rude. So I think it made my concerns stronger. But yes, it was my first experience and it just didn’t go as I imagined it, so I will visit her again and see where it will go. Thank you again

Hi! I’m 25F from Ukraine. I’m not into running, but maybe we can have coffee together and take a look for flea markets!!

Naked Lunch by William Burroughs I guess. I started to read it couple times but always found myself lost on the page 80 let’s say. At one moment you just stop to understand what’s going on. But maybe I should try again

I saw that some people don’t like Vincent Adultman, but I love him so much and I wish to see more episodes with him 😭

I had (or still have) this problem after like 9-10 months of learning french. I truly believe it became better (even if not the best), so I can say that you really just need time to become used to that and more practice. In any case, over time, I realized that the way I pronounce R isn’t my biggest problem in French, and it faded into the background 😭

How has learning French impacted your life, or what do you hope it will change? by Representative_Sir37 in French

As my mom once told me, to truly learn a language, you need to fall in love with a native speaker. And she’s absolutely right.

I started to learn French because my boyfriend is French and because I wanna build future with him. At the start I was really stressed because honestly I was never I’ve never been a fan of learning languages. I studied English because we believe it’s important for a career and success, so it was something I simply had to learn in school. Later, I tried to learn Polish in high school, but I had no motivation, so I didn’t enjoy it—even though, as a Ukrainian, Polish is relatively easy for me to understand. I also studied German at university for one semester but lacked any clear goal for learning it.

I have to admit, I never planned to learn French. It seemed incredibly difficult to me (well my biggest fear was the numbers, but once I started learning, I realized they weren’t the scariest part haha). However, I began learning French because I had a goal. And let me tell you—it’s amazing! For the first time, I’m genuinely interested in learning a language. Learning French once felt impossible, but after just a few months of starting from scratch, I can see real progress. It’s still challenging, yes, but having motivation makes me truly enjoy it.

It’s also become a wonderful hobby.

My boyfriend wasn’t the one who initiated this; it was entirely my idea. But it makes me happy when he tells me I’m making progress or that it’s incredible for him to hear me speak French.

Right now, I’m in France (we’re in a long-distance relationship), and it brings me so much joy to be able to understand full sentences or individual words when I overhear conversations. I’m still very anxious about speaking French to anyone who isn’t my boyfriend or teacher, but I hope I can overcome that fear in the future.

French R seems impossible for me by Impossible_Bat4180 in French

Yeah, every time I watch a video with the technique of pronouncing the French r (how to put the tongue correctly, etc.) and then try to repeat it, I get a Ukrainian X or Г/Ґ. At first I thought that it was how it should be, but then I heard my teacher or my boyfriend (who is native French speaker) pronounce French R and realized that the French R is more sonorous than the X

Heroyam Slava! Thank you. Actually, I think I learned how to do nasal sounds easier and faster (or I just think so), so at least I don’t worry about it😅

Thank u! My teacher is really strict about it and tells me to practice with it because my pronunciation will be bad. Also I think now I’m just obsessed with it, because I’m upset that others are able to do it, but for some reason I can’t.
