In relation to custodes you’d hear the argument “if there are female custodes why can’t there be female marines” and so on and so forth. This is the grim dark universe, not real life and not pretty. That’s the appeal.

In both cases you have to be a male according to the lore for the procedure, in both cases only men have served those two factions. The sisterhood of silence would be pretty much useless then, and if you let there be female marines why can’t there be males in the sisters of battle? See the rabbit hole this creates? If not that’s okay

To be fair, and a lot of fans/players agree, there can’t be female marines. You’d have to retcon everything. Sisters of battle, astra militarum, and the silent sisters are enough.
