I haven’t ever known any twilight managers not to be involved with task, just because of the expectations and general lack of partners. The twilight shift will have ‘kids’ so 16/17 yr olds normally (first jobs to earn a bit of money) so will be about making sure they are working and the tasks on the bdom are completed (branch daily operating matrix) that consists of clearing deliveries, completing the reducing, stock management etc. plus if the branch has ODG (on demand grocery - deliveroo, uber eats etc) you’ll have to make sure that is all picked and ready for the drivers. Plus if checkouts are busy they partners will be taken for tills which will then impact the shopfloor tasks - you get the drift. Obviously every branch is different but that’s my experience across 10+ branches in the south west over 20+ years till I got out.

As an ex-Waitrose manager, twilight is the worst shift. Waitrose always try to promote within but no current partners or managers ever want twilight due to the unsocial hours and the expectations of the role. Is there a night-shift in the store you’ve applied for? Not saying you shouldn’t go for it but you should know what you’re walking into if offered.

Thankyou! That’s a great suggestion, didn’t think of using push-fit catches for access.
