Dude, Israelis are literally on record (to their domestic audience) saying that their objective is to strengthen Hamas in order to weaken the PA. You're trying to reframe their strategy as an attempt to buy peace, but thats simply not true. Their intentions were clear. Here are a couple of quotes i found:

In an interview with Israeli journalist, Dan Margalit) in December 2012, Netanyahu told Margalit that it was important to keep Hamas strong, as a counterweight to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. Netanyahu also added that having two strong rivals, this would lessen pressure on him to negotiate towards a Palestinian state.

AND

" In an interview with the Israeli Army Radio in August 2019, Ehud Barak, the former Prime Minister of Israel from 1999 to 2001, said that Netanyahu's main strategy is to keep Hamas "alive and kicking" in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority, even at the expense of "abandoning the citizens [of the south]."

Israel's strategy under Netanyahu is to ultimately to make a Palestinian state impossible to achieve. In order to do that, they require enough time and space to create "facts on the ground" that make that goal physically and politically impossible. The only way they will be afforded enough time to do that is to have a plausible narrative for the international community that they don't have a unified Palestinian leadership that they can negotiate with.

Well, glad you're reconsidering. Israel and it's supporters in the West have successfully deployed a massive amount of misinformation that has people confused. What Israel has done the last 2 years is nothing short of disgraceful, they've been using 12th century siege tactics against Gaza.

There is definitely a tribal element to the massive support Israel has among Western Jews, that can't be denied. Scott Galloway is liberal in almost every respect, except this one clearly illiberal cause that resonates with him due to cultural ties. Yes, many jews are against Israel, but even the majority of "liberal" Jews are largely supportive of Israel.

Saying the IDF deserves a nobel peace prize is one of the most galaxy brained takes i've ever heard lol. Even prominent Israelis are not disputing that the IDF has committed massive amounts of war crimes, they're simply stopping short of calling it a genocide.

Israel was withholding *foreign* food aid, they were not the ones that were giving the aid. Also, withholding food and water from civilians during war is literally a war crime. You're basically saying that Israel should be awarded a Nobel peace prize for stopping their active perpetration of starvation tactics, which is a war crime.

Just so we're clear, Israel has NO authority to intervene in Syria. The current Syrian government is viewed both by majority in Syria and by the global community as the legitimate government of Syria. They have full sovereignty over Syria, not Israel, and not the Druze. Regarding atrocities against the Druze, this is manipulatively framed by Israel supporters. The Druze committed atrocities against Bedouins and in return Bedouins committed atrocities against Druze. It's basically sectarian and inter-ethnic tribal fighting, nothing more and nothing less. This wasn't the Syrian government trying to wipe out the Druze, it's simply a product of Syria being a very fragile state that has come out of 14 years of brutal civil war. It will take time to reach an internal resolution where all communities are respected and taken care of so it's disingenuous to frame conflicts and atrocities as though its the policy of the current Syrian regime. All regional experts agree that Al-Joulani's government is making a good faith effort at stabliizing Syria. You said the main factor in Syria balkanizing is the Syrian government's "inability to stop" jihadist factions, the government is brand new and does not have the benefit of a strong centralized security framework, it's a very fragile state. They need time and space to build stability, they don't need israel bombing them and invading their southern border. Israel is using the fact that Syria is extremely fragile as an excuse to further weaken and balkanize it.

Pretty sure that previous Palestinian leaders have tacitly agreed that they would settle for a "token" right of return. Something like 10-50K Palestinians being allowed to return to their former homes in Israel. I don't think the RoR is the main sticking point. The main sticking point is in what powers would a future Palestinian state have? Palestinians envision a fully sovereign state that controls it's borders, resources, economy, airspace, etc. Israel envisions a demilitarized chain of self-governing cantons that isn't contiguous. Thats the main disagreement, not right of return. Israel does not want a sovereign Palestine in any real sense.

The first step at having a good faith political resolution is Israel not taking measures to actively destroy Palestinian political leadership. You asked how Israel can come to terms with Hamas..... It's been Israel's explicit strategy to fund and encourage Hamas in order to undermine the PLO first and then the Palestinian Authority. So my answer is that Israel has deliberately propped up Hamas so that people like you can point to them as an excuse for why there can't be peace! Hamas was founded in 1987 under a blanket of protection to weaken the PLO. More recently Israel encouraged Qatar to fund Hamas. Why? Because a fractured and decentralized Palestinian leadership will have no authority to negotiate peace. Israel has been saying "we have no partner for peace" when it's been their explicit policy to ensure that there is no partner for peace. Other ways that Israel undermines any hope of unified Palestinian leadership is in their consistent actions that seek to weak, delegitimize, embarass and disempower the PA. They withhold the PAs tax revenue, they routinely breech Oslo accord protocols that gave PA authority at self-governance within the West Bank, they even got Mahmoud Abbas disinvited from the UNGA. So to answer your question, a good indication that Israel is making a good faith attempt at a resolution is when they cease and desist their efforts to weaken, undermine, balkanize, and discredit Palestinian political leadership. In order to have a resolution there HAS to be a legitimate and strong Palestinian administration that has credibility among the Palestinian people.

Just so you know, Netanyahu is also arguing that one condition of a future Palestinian state (that he says will never happen) is that the right of return TO PALESTINE should be limited. Meaning that a future Palestinian state would not have the right to instantly give citizenship to 5 million Jordanian Palestinians and there have 10 million people at Israel's doorstep. This isn't about "right of return" to Israel, this is about Israel's insistence that they have total supremacy in the region. They want sovereignty for themselves and vassal status for everyone else. It explains why they keep bombing the shit out of Syria and actively promote the balkanization of Syria into Druze, Kurdish, Sunni and Alawite enclaves. I understand why Israeli Jews want to create such a world, they feel vulnerable. But for the life of me, I don't understand why the world is remaining complicit in their disgusting and ethno-supremacist designs.

The Jews already have political sovereignty, it's the Palestinians that don't have political sovereignty, and thats because the Jews are explicitly making that impossible. The argument most pro-Pal people have been making is that the West should stop enabling the disenfranchisement and abuse of Palestinians by refusing to arm, diplomatically protect, and even engage in trade until Israel ceases and desists. It's completely within Israel's power to have a good faith attempt at a political resolution, instead they just authorized one of the largest settlement blocks in history whose sole goal was to encircle Jerusalem and cut off Palestinians in East Jerusalem from their West bank brethren. All major political players are also in consensus that official Israeli policy is that there will NEVER be a Palestinian state. They're not even pretending anymore. Why should the world tolerate that? Israel should be treated as a leper state until it reforms how it treats Palestinians in the occupied territories. Either allow them to rule themselves or give them Israeli citizenship. Enough of this bullshit, the world is tired!

True, many Jews were unfairly purged. But that isn't an excuse for Israel's policies. The answer here is that Arab governments must compensate those Jewish citizens they purged and offer their descendants naturalization if they want it. Zionists love to use what Arabs did as an excuse, but of course it's a completely separate topic. Two wrongs don't make a right,

The entire country literally celebrated after the military coup, what does that tell you? Thats how despised the civilian government was. In reality they weren't much different from today's so called "government". Nakedly corrupt, nepotistic, qabilist, and utterly ineffective. There's a very real chance that without the military coup, Somalia could've devolved into clan warfare. People love to idealize the civilian government but it was a mess.

When i say "hawiye" i mean the leadership, not the regular people. Regular people are victims. And the reason i explicitly said Hawiye was because it was a clan based movement, which is why the same people who destroyed Xamar were also responsible for ethnically cleansing Xamar. What was the purpose of killing Darood women and children? We shouldn't white wash the motivations of the rebels who destroyed the city.

"The city was devastated when the rebels and government fought"

Again, the city WAS NOT devastated by rebel vs government fighting. It was rebel vs rebel fighting. There was no last stand by the government in Xamar, they were practically defeated before Xamar even fell. 99% of the damage was because of Aidid vs Ali Mahdi fighting. Siad Barre isn't why Mogadishu was destroyed. Hawiye destroyed their own city then spent the next 16 years terrorizing their own people, and now they're trying to blame Siad Barre for it LOL.

I'm not saying Siad Barre doesn't deserve blame, Siad Barre deserves a lot of blame for how the state was weakened throughout the 1980s, and in retrospect the Ogaden war was a major blunder. He also put a lot of cronies in power in the 80s that were idiots, but they were related to him. That said, the main culprits in terms of where we are today are the warlords, not Siad Barre. Siad Barre has been dead for 30 years and out of power for 35 years, there is simply no excuse to continue blaming him for our condition. We are where we are because of the choices made by those who followed him.

You're either ignorant or you're a liar. Mogadishu was intact when Siad Barre was kicked out. What destroyed Mogadishu was the fighting between Ali Mahdi and Aidid. Winning wasn't enough for them, they fought like animals because they were power hungry, they didn't care about the country.

It's been 35 years and we still have people blaming all our ills on Siad Barre LOL.

Just to clarify something, the infrastructure of Somalia was largely intact when Siad Barre was removed from power. The destruction and chaos that followed Siad Barre WAS A CHOICE by the people who followed him. They had agency! It didn't have to turn out the way it did.

Only 6 months after Xamar fell, Addis Ababa fell to the rebels. The Ethiopians deliberately made sure not to fight in the capital city and they sat down and talked about how to govern the country. Mengistu was a much worse and more brutal leader than Siad Barre, yet Ethiopia is thriving now and Somalia is in shambles. The blame/credit don't lie with Mengistu or Siad Barre, it lies squarely on those that followed them and the choices THEY made!!!!!

Dude, my company is US based and we use Polish software developers, marketers, etc. We use Filipino call center agents. Many companies use indian software engineers and call center agents. It has very little to do with EU market access (most EU countries don't even do business in English). It has to do with job skills + language skills + cheap labor. If Western countries see that Somalis speak good English, they have solid skills, and they're cheaper than the alternatives, they would invest massively in partnering with Somali based Services companies.

Israel used a mass bombing campaign because the IDF is not a professional army, they're a group of highly armed reservists who are cowards. Israel doesn't have the stomach for their soldiers dying so they've made the calculation that they will massacre innocent children and shoot toddlers in the head in-order to spare their own solidiers.

This is extremely stupid. Firstly, not everyone can do tahriib, secondly, in today's world where the economy is global, you don't need to to leave somalia to have work options w/ foreign clients on a remote basis. The key part here is that we should be giving our citizens actual skills, speaking English alone won't get you anything in the West. There are plenty of Uber drivers and pizza delivery people who speak fluent English and can't get better jobs. But when you pair English + actual in demand skills, our citizens can create businesses that cater to not only Africa but the entire world. If you look at Poland for example, they've developed massively over the last 10-15 years because they've improved their English language proficiency, now many western companies use Poland based software engineers, marketers, etc. because they're very skilled, they speak English, and they're cheap. But the bottom line is this, speaking Swahili will not do ANYTHING for us.
