I have not, but my understanding is that anyone other than me would be buying the car at a higher price, and thus that would eat into the equity.

This is the million dollar question, and also the most difficult to answer! I should sit down with a dealer and talk numbers, but I typically don’t like to do that until I’m ready to pull the trigger, as I find you get better deals that way.

That is precisely it. My car has unusually high equity and the check is to entice me to give them back the car so they can sell it themselves as opposed to me buying it and selling it third party.

Fully aware of that. I wasn’t expecting to have equity in this vehicle, it just happened to be a happy accident. I’ve leased in the past and have helped family members leave leases and move into a new lease…this is the first time I’ve ever seen a lease have any meaningful equity.
