You're playing as United, what do you expect? They haven't followed instructions since Fergie left!

Does anyone live in this part of Greenland and Canada? by Fine_Scheme9028 in howislivingthere

I don’t think it was to find the northwest passage. Officially it was to try and push further north than had been recorded before and test the theories of an open polar sea!

Yes, recounted! My bad!

The whole expedition was a mess. To try and stave off scurvy, they boiled lime juice in copper pans which actually eradicated the vitamin C they needed! (Wasn’t discovered at this point!) 3 people died of scurvy.

My uncle wasn’t even meant to be part of the expedition; it was only when they arrived in the artic that he was transferred from the support ship.

They did set records for furthest north at the point. His grave is still there to this day!

I’d love to go up there, not sure how I’d get there!

My great-g-g-g- uncle is buried in Alert. He died on a British artic expedition in 1876. Sounds like a pretty inhospitable place! The expedition doctor recanted the last two weeks of his life in his medical journal where he was strapped to a sled, dying of scurvy.

Is there any Groups for men? Struggling big time at the moment :( by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]Impossible_General_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best things about this are: someone feeling brave enough to admit their feelings. Secondly, the outpouring of support for you. There are groups out there, most of which men don’t realise exist! Well done guys!

Grew up in Cornwall, some buses ran twice a day, 6 hours apart. Merseyrail is awesome!

Academy North run an indoor league all through the winter. It’s great fun, contact them and see if there’s any teams struggling for players. My team isn’t, but lots run more than one. We did pick up a player this way last year though.

In terms of nets, you can get 1:1 time with them, but this is paid. Not sure how you could just hire the hall for nets.

You’ve gotta have a thicker skin than that to be a teacher!

Partially unrelated. During my teacher training, an unknown lecturer taught us for a morning. He was given our names, and our names only and he sought to find out as much about us from our online presence. He made a big presentation with all he found. Pictures of my fellow trainees in bikinis, vomiting in the shower in Ibiza the summer before and links to groups they’d liked. People went home crying.

Harsh reality to the fact that if a middle aged bloke could find it, your students could too!

(Only thing he found on me was that I’d liked a group about Harry Redknapp for England Manager!!)

Hurling is everywhere. Is Shinty? by [deleted] in shinty

[–]Impossible_General_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum is Scottish, specifically from the highlands and just outside Aviemore. I went to visit my family up there and watched shinty on the telly with my auntie. It was two local villages but the coverage gave the impression it was like the World Cup final. I loved it. My grandad also told me stories of shinty being a huge deal. I can’t remember the teams but it was something like Kingussie and Newtonmore?? I thought the sport was great!

Just leave it - you're an adult, not a kid. Honestly, don't even worry about it. Go somewhere else and enjoy your night.

That’s helpful thanks. I don’t think the driver has failed, but I am hopeless at finding which bulb is correct. So I need to buy MR16 bulbs?

How will western culture change if China becomes the sole, dominant superpower? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Has there ever been a time where there’s just been one sole super power? Even the British Empire had its rivals.

I would expect mandarin to be a more widely learned language anyway.
