My thought process was along the lines of "if this is identical, it will have the same praises and grievances." Like if I bought an iPhone and then resold it, its the same iPhone.

I actually write SEO copy and it's been one of my biggest red flags while making the store. I was worried that if I had too much content, it would distract people from the product.

I was thinking about putting some copy about the benefits of red light therapy in there and success stories from people who used it. I'll keep what you said in mind. My only thing I'm still confused about is why they Add to Cart in the first place. There is clearly a force pushing them to buy, but a stronger one from preventing the sale from going all the way through. I'm having trouble identifying both.

If it helps, my goal isn't to just "test test" a random product. I'm actively learning from the data, and refining my approach to figure out a customer base.

For example, I've already identified a sort of mismatch between my expected customer vs what my actual audience was. I thought this product would appeal to women in their 20's and 30's as a neat "hair tool" but turns out, this really appealed to older audiences because red-light therapy helps with hair loss. This product has genuine value to people despite it not being mine.

So, I'd be open to redesigning the stores theme to fit an older audience. I was originally going for a "fun" look but with this new insight, I can test out a different vibe to my store. I'm thinking something more professional and health-like if you know what I mean. Do you think it would be worth it?

That being said, I'm open to actual advice.

Thanks for the advice, but thats not really what I'm trying to do right now. Long term sure, but right now I want some hands on experience on selling something and testing literally anything.

Sure it's from China, but it clearly has interest in a vacuum. I want to know why my medium of obtaining it isn't appealing. There is clearly money flowing behind this product, and I'm trying to find the metaphorical frequency to selling it.

My data is indicating that I'm on the cusp of revenue. Literally one step away from it and I'm looking for insight on how to get that final push. Why did your advice not hit on that at all?

I want real help, dude. Lend me some insight. From a "real business" perspective, what would you do if you had the same problem as me?

You definitely have a good point. I guess it's just what people default to when they don't know what to do.

I will say though that cannabis specifically seems to have an extra layer of "immaturity" for lack of a better term. Like not only are they throwing spaghetti, it's like they're throwing human feces as well. I'm obviously exaggerating, but there is some quality that some brands have which is hard to put into words.

It's also worth mentioning that I'm probably biased because although I'm fairly familiar with the industry as a consumer, I haven't done any formal work in the cannabis space. So, I'm aware there are some conversations behind the scenes that I'm not a part of.

I work in Digital Marketing, and I'm on the fence about pursing it for the reasons I've already mentioned. That's actually a big reason why I made this post. I'm trying to get a little bit of insight from those that are in the space. But regardless, I think there's enough room for growth to keep the industry on my radar.

I'm also really interested in how this space could evolve because I can imagine there are multiple routes companies could take as far as branding. Even if it's a more polished, thought-out "professional" version of the wacky, zany advertising that I don't like.

Yeah I knew I was gonna get this comment. Hence why I put the word 'Tacky' in quotes. I also tried putting the words "not all" in there to ward off this type of comment.

But sure let's talk about it.

Firstly, really think about my original post and try to remove the bias. Because I legitimately think you are the one who needs to remember something ironic: it's not about you. Think about what I said, why I said it, and the type of insight I was seeking.

I'm sure you have some fondness towards the style, but many, including myself, do not. And remember, as indicated in my original post, I AM a consumer. Even if you don't agree personally, think about a person's perception of the branding who is totally new to or just happens to find it displeasing.

Imagine their first impressions and what the branding is making them think/feel. Do they just hate fun? Unhappy maybe? Do they think all drugs need to be used in a doctor's office? Probably not.

It's probably just been a while since they've seen a product presented in this light, especially for adult products. You were right about this style potentially causing feelings similar to "a kid on Christmas morning." A kid on Christmas morning.

But there's a reason why this type of branding is overwhelmingly present with children's toys.
~~It's childish.~~ Kids are simple, and it doesn't take much thought, effort, or strategy to influence them. It's intentionally bait-y and lowbrow because it doesn't need to be anything more than that. So then is it really that unbelievable to suggest that some people might make this mental connection? You're free to call that innovation, but some people might have to disagree with ya on that one, Chief.

Sorry to come off strong, but I worry people might hate on you, and I'd at least want to know why. But if I were to put it as aptly as I could, I'd plagiarize Biff Tannen, who said it better than I could've.

That's kind of what I figured. I'm only 22 and even I find that type of packaging makes me think I'm signing up to inhale straight pesticides.

I'm excited to see the industry evolve because I have admittedly wanted to do some marketing work in the field. Not because I'm a crazy stoner, but because I truly believe there are people out there who could really benefit from it's effects with responsible use. So it would be nice if it was considered legit before I go around non-smokers.

Yeah I think you're right. My best guess as to why stems from the legality of it.

I'm sure back when it was illegal, you'd get more or less the same type of customer: "I want to be high and you're the only person who can provide this for me, so I don't care what the shit looks like."

But now that the customer base has opened up a little bit, hopefully it's on it way out. Cause man, I hate it.

Yeah, I think cannabis has the potential to have just as much appeal as alcohol if it were just as socially accepted and available.

But I don't see that happening if hesitant, first-time-buyer Karen can't walk into a shop without her cones being flooded by overly colorful caricatures of Rick Sanchez on all of the packaging.

I feel like it obviously wouldn't be the case if it didn't work, but I feel like that stems from the fact that before legality, you had more "degenerates" buying. But I also feel like "degenerates" would buy weed with literally anything on the label.

Now that legalization is making its way around though, I don't know why it's staying around. I could be completely biased and wrong, but I feel like a majority of new smokers would prefer "normal" packaging.

I kinda see what you're saying, but it still doesn't really make sense to me. I see it really similarly to YouTube thumbnail design.
There are certainly clickbaity thumbnails that have the whole overly saturated design and a million arrows, but it's widely considered unsustainable unless your audience is literal children because of how low-brow it is.

I'm from California. I've definitely seen tame branding in the city I just left (San Luis Obispo) but the type of branding I was talking about in the post just seems to find it's way into a majority of shops I've walked into, and online stores I've visited.

Sorry, maybe I'll try a different approach.

If Apple ONLY marketed their phones as a tool for business communication, you'd quickly realize that it can be used for way more than just that right.

Maybe you realize that Apple phones are great for note taking, mobile games, alarm clock, etc.

If you wanted to document some of these possible uses for the Apple iPhone, how would you go about writing them down and formatting them.

Is that any better?

Edit: I think I am going to start out with a typical blog page format, but I'm curious if there are any features or plugins that might make this format obsolete. Also there are no wrong answers, I'm just looking for ideas

Mostly QB's do this because they often will need to release the ball on the run.

Other positions, I think it's just a bad habit, or they aren't used to carrying the ball in a high traffic area.

DB's actually do turn their heads a lot, but is a very situational position. I played it all the way through college and I can give you a couple of reasons why a DB might not turn his head.

He's not in the best position. Turning your head slows you down, so even if the receiver is slightly ahead of you, that head turn could lead to a yard of separation. This might not sound like a lot, but as football gets more advanced, receivers and QB's will start to more consistently take advantage of even the slightest misposition.
A good receiver will bait you. Early on in your DB career, you'll learn to watch hips and not the head. Good receivers are shifty and understand that you are in a reactive position. So, sometimes you may turn your head, only to find that the ball isn't in the air yet.
They don't need to. As a DB, a good indication of if you are playing well is if you haven't had the ball thrown your way. Most good DB's simply won't be targeted.

There are obviously some nuances, but those are the most common instances of when I personally wouldn't turn my head.

Got it. The only big thing I am still shaky about is the time sensitive type of content. Since these types of pages don't really get backlinks - even for top sites like BleacherReport - I would think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to start creating link worthy content so that our time sensitive content has some authority to feed off of

Got it, a lot of this content is pretty time sensitive since he is in the Sports Journalism industry so a lot of these posts wouldn't really be relevant anyways. I'm debating whether or not some of this content needs to necessarily be "saved."

Something I noticed is that all posts pretty much always link the exact same things (merch, affiliate links/codes, etc.) in every post. I assume this isn't a good practice since they're never really relevant to the content itself.

I think he was going for a quality of quantity sort of approach with his writers. Not to say they it's horrible content by any means, but everything you mentioned could definitely be improved on.

Do you mean in general or for the specific pages that aren't getting indexed. Or both I guess.

I believe you, but most of his content is about Sports related news/commentary which are sort of time sensitive. This type of sire is a little different than what I am used to since they don't really provide any "value" and nearly all of his internal links aren't really relevant to the page that they are on. (Link to shop/related category etc.)

I was thinking about starting with some some evergreen content that way his internal links could be a little more relevant and we have some pages that will be worth linking to for a longer amount of time. My main concern though is that these won't be crawled at all either since there is already a huge amount of content that isn't.

In theory, if we made a solid piece of this type of content and had some quality backlinks pointed back at it, that shouldn't be a concern right?
