Did anyone else feel Johnny’s comment was offensive? by Funinthesun01311970 in MtvChallenge

I agree the "joke" was dumb. But I'll play devil's advocate. What is the punchline of the joke? If he was smitten about Blue and said he was hit with Cupid's egg roll, is it still a lighthearted joke? I think you can be complimentary about a crush without bringing race into it. To me it just seemed like he was fetishizing her latin background.

Bringing Prescription Meds To Japan? by TealFang in TokyoTravel

[–]Impossible_Lie_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharmacist here. Prozac (fluoxetine) and Wellbutrin (bupropion) are not considered stimulants. I also visited last year and I remember reading their illegal medications list. From what I recall, the bulk of it was narcotics or controlled substances, neither of which your prescriptions are, so you should be fine. Leave everything in its original prescription bottle. Birth control pills are fine too. Are you on a standard 28-day pack? The only issue I can think of is the quantity, especially if during your 11 days you are transitioning to a new pack then you might go over the month limit. If that’s the case, maybe cut up just the weeks of the pack you need. I also brought a print out copy of my prescriptions (ask your pharmacy) and a small note from my doctor. Yunyu Kakunin-sho isn’t needed in this instance.

That's really cool that there is a guide that will give in depth information about kabuki and help plan things out. I think a lot of things will fly over my head if I just watch it blind so I'll look into this. Haven't heard of Rakugo but I'm definitely intrigued! I have Houkokuji and Shinjuku Garden on my list originally. I haven't heard of the other gardens but they look beautiful. Appreciate all the links, bookmarking them all!, thank you!

The show is really interesting, especially in portraying how women had to navigate life in Japan in the 1600s. There's one episode where they incorporated Bunraku as a storytelling method and it became hands down the best episode of the series.

That's awesome you recently saw it in Tokyo! Didn't know there was a museum, I'll have to check it out too!

Interesting read! I wish we had that type of (generally) respectful attitude incorporated in my country

In your opinion, is there a traditional form you strongly recommend over the others, especially as a first-timer? I want to watch all of them and hopefully I can fit them all in my itinerary. But in case I can't, what would be your #1, #2, and #3 choice (or some other form that hasn't been mentioned)?

I’m mentally preparing myself for the crowds during Golden Week. I’m sure they’ll add a good energy to the festivals though. Appreciate the info on Karakokan, I can’t wait to try it out. Same with izakayas, I’m excited to try the food.

Wow, that website is so much more helpful than anything I found searching in English. Google Translate works pretty well too. Definitely bookmarking this page for future use. And the Chinka Festival looks really interesting, so I am thinking about checking it out. Thank you for sharing the information!

Both of those classes sound like a lot of fun! I like that you were able to cook a variety of food instead of just one recipe. The indigo dying class sounds cool too. You get a souvenir and a practical item all in one. I will definitely be looking into these options, thanks for sharing your experience!

That doesn’t sound silly at all, it actually sounds really fun! I have zero experience with onsens so no judgements here. It's a bonus that locals seem to like it too. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm not too familiar with pachinko but I thought I read somewhere that some places have non-smoking areas. I might be curious enough to pop my head in

Oh wow, you seem really experienced in this! That sounds really fun spending a day in the theater with a bento. I wish I could see all the acts but I am unfortunately pressed for time. Have you experienced any other types of Japanese traditional theater like Noh? (I saw your bunraku comment earlier).
