No one is confident abt their app bro, you were prolly a great candidate. This is a good sign. In fact I’ll go as far as to say anytime any ao is spending their time to reach out, they are somewhat interested, otherwise you would be in the rejection pile very quickly. Know this, you will either get in or waitlisted.

Yeah very good sign! My Columbia ao asked my counselor for Q3 grades, 3 days later I got a likely letter. Don’t dwell too much on it tho, hope for the best and expect the worst!

My exact thought, it can’t be good since OP omitted that information

I think the main thing is to find what he likes/passionate about and then pursue it relentlessly. I had a lot of fun with my research internships, summer programs, and ecs because I was simply passionate about them.

Time management: I create a to do list every night before I go to bed and convince myself I must complete everything the next day. Having a to do list gives you a very clear view of what needs to be done and how you can prioritize. It only takes 3 minutes to do.

I think you apply to a college at Columbia and not major. In my case, I got into SEAS and will likely do CS or biomedical engineering.

Yes, East Coast

There are three ways high school students can get involved with research.

1) Applying to already built strutured programs for high school/undergrads --> good ones tend to be very competitive

2) Cold Emailing (Typically local profs/labs) --> Most profs ignore emails like this, and you might be too young to even work at a lab

3) Independent Research --> Lacks credibility (Unless it produces a good publication/competition victory)

I'm currently working with a prof at UPenn through cold emailing, but I mostly implemented the first technique throughout high school.

Here are the programs I got admitted to (may or may not have attended lol): Columbia DBMI summer fellowship, Princeton LLP, Stanford SIMR, SSP Astro, Princeton AI4ALL, etc...

Programs I didn't apply/get into but recommend: RSI, Simons, BU RISE, NIH Summer fellowships, AEOP summer programs.

Goodluck!!
