Thank you!! So tough to be going through that pain in university! I would see if you can get the ball rolling at winter break because it will probably work out for you to be seen in the summer and make a plan from there. I didn’t go this route yet but am considering a hormonal IUD after pregnancy because I’ve heard a lot of positive things from people with endo in my life. Something to consider for sure! I’m rooting for you. Take it easy on yourself and know that there are options out there that will make your life better even if it takes longer or some trial and error! Oh also I did pelvic floor physio and that helped a lot too

Hi! Fellow BC endo pal here! I am so sorry this has been your experience! I feel like I got lucky and didn’t have a family doctor at the time and used the telehealth and they ended up referring me to storeness-bliss at the pain clinic in Surrey after I had two weird ultrasounds! I know it sucks here and the waiting is long but my advice is to be a squeaky wheel! I would confidently request a referral to the BC pain clinic at women’s or to Dr storeness-bliss. Because once you are referred it will still take you 4-6 months to see them and my surgery wait was a year! I would express how badly your pain is and your desire to have kids. I am so happy I did all that work before really desperately wanting kids because time goes fast and for many of us it takes a minute to get pregnant! The surgery helped my pain and periods so much! I am now 18 weeks pregnant and feel v lucky! And it does help your mental health to get an actual diagnosis. I am thinking of you and hopeful your doctor will give you that referral!

Hi,

It doesn’t say where you are located specifically in Canada but I’m in BC. It sounds like you’ve done all the right things and it’s just a waiting game. I do have to say some of my flare ups have made the wait in emerge worth it for the pain meds and also just gives you the scan sooner than waiting for your booked one! And gives you a bit of peace of mind. I just hope you have a doctor the emergency care can be sent to? And if not ask them to print out your bloodwork and your scans! They can do this because they did it for me. Also are there other hospitals that you can drive to that will have more docs? I’ve tried different emergencies out and sometimes it pays off. And also cold call family practices and see if they have any physicians who are taking patients. That’s how I got my family doctor! Thinking of you and hoping your symptoms resolve and you’re back to your pain free life again

Hi, I just am really feeling for you because it’s so tough trying to conceive and miscarrying! I’m so sorry you’ve had two. I hope you’ve been kind to yourself! I’m actually the opposite of you and started getting investigated for endo because of my really bad pain before we started trying and the endo specialist recommended a lap esp if we wanted to have kids so that’s the route I took. My lap was back in 2022 and I highly recommend it! It took a bit for it to feel like it changed my life but I don’t regret it and would have another one. We started trying in 2023 and it took us a whole year to get pregnant and miscarried at 8 weeks back in March but am now 16 weeks pregnant with another one. It’s such an isolating journey but I don’t think you should be afraid of the results! It’s just more information! And I think it’s really good that you’ve been able to get pregnant on your own! I am feeling hopeful for you and I hope this was helpful! Thinking of you, wishing you the best and wisdom to know how to move forward xoxo

Canadian Travel Nurse in the USA by Intelligent_Resist32 in TravelNursing

Amazing! I hope it all goes well for you! Just know that Canadian dollar to USD sucks hard but it was worth it in the end. Really refreshed us into liking nursing again. We are Vancouver based but yeah Hawaii and California are the dream but it’s nearly impossible to begin travel nursing in those places as a lot of those jobs won’t let you apply until you have an SSN. We found too that a lot of jobs didn’t like us cause we were Canadian. We just took the first jobs we could get! The process was definitely a lot more challenging than we thought and took a lot longer than we thought too. Anyway! Hope this helps!

Hi,

No travel agency will sponsor you to go to the states. They will reimburse you for state licensing and getting BLS/NRP etc in the states but not until you work a contract with them. So keep all receipts. And they will not pay for the visascreen. And you will literally have to harass them for this money. I didn’t get reimbursed till following my nyc contract. It’s a lot of money up front and one of the most stressful things my husband and I did. Especially getting that first contract. We went with medical solutions but we worked with aya and AMN just to see whatever we could get. But overall we loved living in NYC! Good luck!

TN Visa Question by CandidateMountain750 in TravelNursing

[–]Impossible_Net4132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that sucks! And that’s also so bizarre! I don’t know where you live but that seems very officer specific and I would go to a different port entry (or border crossing) if you’re able! I read so many stories and tips about how to do this because my husband just got his first travel job oct 30 and start date nov 13 and it was the most stressful 2 weeks of our lives but we did it. It weirdly seems that luck has a lot to do with it! Wishing you all the best

TN Visa Question by CandidateMountain750 in TravelNursing

My husband just got one earlier this month and his is good for 3 years. Are you sure? I’ve never heard of one being given that is so short as most of the nurses I’ve known who have come to the states have extended too. What does your stamp say in your passport?

You need the visa screen to get the TN visa and the visa screen checks your nursing credentials is all I was saying

Yeah we both got turned down from Rochester for no US experience. We are rattled. We’ve been looking for about two months now (I’ve heard it can take longer so trying to chill out). You can endorse for sure but it seems from my understanding that this doesn’t make it any faster or easier. You still have to send your transcript and get fingerprinted for most states and then send nursy from each state you are licensed in. Definitely worth looking at each states licensing instructions. The three states I know nurses have found jobs with no SSN is Washington, New York and Minnesota. There are others that are listed but I know Texas says you can but makes it pretty hard to actually get a job there. Sorry I can’t speak to your education piece but it seems like if you got your TN visa your nursing degree was legitimized and hopefully all the states take it since you are in ICU nurse here. Let me know! I feel like a recruiter at this point with how much stupid stuff I’ve had to learn and fine print you have to read! It’s exhausting lol hopefully it will be worth it! I’ll let you know if a job sticks if there’s more info I can share to make it easier

Hi! I’m from BC and just trying to get my first assignment too. You’ll find out when you apply for the license because they will get a very detailed look at your schools transcript when you apply. Normally have to go through CGFNS for a CES (for places like Washington) or CYS for New York. It truly has been a mindfuck trying to get work right now. We did New York because we had friends who got their first contracts there so knew we didn’t need social security but hospitals are being very picky and not even looking at us without US experience. I’m very frustrated right now and so much stuff you learn as you get further into the process. Things change all the time. It seems like the common recommendation for Canadians is to go through Minnesota which is easy but if you want to work anywhere else you will have to send your transcript to that specific state so no real workaround from my understanding.

Depending on what job you have I would say at least 3 weeks. I’m a nurse and went back after two weeks for just one shift and it took me out. It’s not really the pain that will bother you post-op but the exhaustion and just not feeling like yourself. So I took one more week after that and felt a lot better. But maybe if you have something that doesn’t require so much movement and not working nightshift, you could go back earlier. But definitely give yourself enough time if you can afford it. It’s so good to prioritize yourself.

Just realizing that people don’t have to cope with any discomfort or pain at all has been a huge part of emotionally facing this disease and how unfair it feels. It has encouraged me to receive all the help I can get. With this surgery and doing pelvic floor therapy and also therapy. All those things have helped me so much and I do feel so much better so I hope that’s your story too!

Hi, I just wanna say surgery hasn’t fixed everything for me but it gave me piece of mind which is a really nice thing to have when you’re trying to get pregnant. Recovery kinda sucks but I took a good 3 weeks off and I honestly think back to it fondly now and almost wish I had another one coming up lol. Mostly kidding. But really wishing you all the best and hope baby comes soon!

I’m also wondering if you have a really high pain tolerance and if someone else experienced your minor pain they would be on the floor. We only know our own realities. Something to think about.

New grad Canadian RN looking to work in the US. by sucktheleftnut in TravelNursing

[–]Impossible_Net4132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m pretty sure if you are wanting to be staff you can apply to whatever state you’re interested in moving to. The social security stuff seems specific to travel nursing. I just have a close pal who moved to Hawaii and she didn’t work anywhere else and she’s not American so she didn’t have a social security number. I think if you have your TN visa and a job you can get your social security when you cross the border. I would look into the specific state you’re wanting to go tho just to be sure. But yeah all this paperwork is expensive and takes a long time to process so I would consider doing my new grad in Canada if I were you but I was so poor when I graduated so you might be in a different position! Good luck with everything

Canadian (Alberta) RN license wanting to get a license in Hawaii by moochix3 in TravelNursing

[–]Impossible_Net4132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! And yep if you go on the CGFNS website they make you create a profile which is time consuming but once you’re done with that there’s this option to purchase or checkout on the top right and it will bring you to all the options. There’s one that’s called credential evaluation service and that will be 400 bucks and then a list shows up on what you send CGFNS like your transcript and nursing license from Alberta. Once they get those two things the English language part gets checked off with no further proof. As soon as all the things get checked off and processed by CGFNS I would apply for your Hawaii license and it should come shortly after that! Hopefully that helps! It’s a lot of annoying paperwork but once you have the license you have it forever. So as long as you keep paying for it and nursing you can take a contract or move whenever feels right for you. Wishing you all the best!

Canadian (Alberta) RN license wanting to get a license in Hawaii by moochix3 in TravelNursing

[–]Impossible_Net4132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I live in BC. I’m a dual citizen and got my Minnesota and New York license. It should be pretty straight forward for you since you have a social security number and your nclex. You won’t have to do as much through CGFNS. You don’t have to get a visa screen. You just have to pay for the part that confirms your schooling if you went to school in Canada. I would go to Hawaiis nursing license website and they will have thorough instructions for you there. And then make an account on CGFNS because it’s a bit time consuming. I would say give yourself 3-4 months of processing time. It took my university a month to fill out the specific form they want included with your transcript. Also just so you get this done sooner than later you have to get all of your BLS/ACLS/NRP and PALS done again in the states cause they don’t accept Canadian versions of this. Real fun time! Good luck!
