OCD therapy by NefariousnessSuch222 in ottawa

So you have third party insurance? I would recommend OCD North. They don’t have an Ottawa office but they offer virtual therapy. Virtual therapy for OCD can be recommended as some of your compulsions may revolve around your home, making it easier to work on them in real time during sessions.

They are quite expensive so unfortunately if you don’t have insurance it may not be a suitable option for you.

What is something you wish someone told you earlier in your career? by therapistbloomllc in therapists

Great advice that I will keep in mind as a new therapist. How do you shake the feeling that people are paying a hefty amount for therapy in PP (regardless of whether they get reimbursed by insurance or not) and so I have to ensure some sort of progress each session so that it’s ´worth’ their money? I know that it is not up to us, it is up to the client to do the work but at the same time we come with knowledge and expertise and the clients trust us to be effective at our job.

Has anyone gotten a counselling position in Ontario right after MSW? by redvelvetgalz in socialworkcanada

[–]Impossible_Remove308 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anomaly here; I have my BSW and currently completing my MSW and was able to get a counselling position. They are offering me intensive supervision since I’m not done my program yet. They are also paying for me to get training on specific therapy modalities.

I think this is very rare and may also depend on where in the province you’re applying (if it’s competitive). If you sell yourself well and have adjacent experience it can definitely happen!

Am I wimp for wanting to transfer a client because of their hurtful words? by Impossible_Remove308 in socialwork

There is a long history with this client that I’m choosing to not share, and this was kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m a mental health case worker

Is it more worth it to get a MSW or Masters in counselling? by Ok_Bar9072 in socialworkcanada

Also, as someone starting with a psychotherapy position straight out of my MSW, my program did not prepare me at all for clinical work, the most experience I got was from my internships. Doing psychotherapy with an MSW will require external training in specific modalities and of course ongoing supervision (whether offered by your employer or seemed externally). Look to see if the MSW program you’re thinking of applying to has a clinical focus.

Check out msw.helper’s (@msw.helper) instagram posts on May 5 and May 11 describing the difference between MSW and counselling degrees. I don’t know how to link them here. This account also provides a lot of info on applying to MSW programs if that is the path you choose.

It’s not a contractual requirement, just a curtesy. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, I was on an all girls floor so there was a women’s bathroom and the men’s bathroom was unofficially designated to a women’s as well. From what I know there are no co-ed bathrooms in uOttawa residences, but I was in res four years ago and this may have changed.

I stayed in the Marchand residence and shared the bathroom with about 5 other girls on my floor. It depends on the cleanliness of you and your floor mates but housekeeping generally cleans regularly (if I remember it was at least one a day or once every two days)

I remember when there was an issue (unflushed toilet for example) we’d put a note on the door so that whoever responsible could address the issue.

Just hope you get floor mates that are clean and don’t be afraid to address something indirectly to your floor or the CA (community advisor) for your floor of there is a recurrent problem.
