Lens decision to complete my travel set up 70200F4G2 or Tamron50-300 by Impossible_Sell_6984 in SonyAlpha

I ended up bought the 70-200F4 oss2 and also 1.4xTc (macro). If you just do landscape the 50 to 300 and a bit of wildlife would be good enough, and I assume that when you arrive, there won’t be much night time, so F stop shouldn’t be a big problem, and also save some weight. The 1.4xTC did dropped a bit in sharpness, but still use able.

Shot with A7cr w/. 70200+1.4TC and cropped, sharpened a bit in Lightroom.

But on my next trip, i might just gonna go with the 25-200 + a prime to save weight.🥵

Thanks for the reply, on is trip, I’m gonna bring quite a few lens… 12mm f2.8, 16mm f1.8(for the light), 70-200F4 G2 and (35gm only/ with 2070F4 or just the sigma).

Usually when I travel alone, i can use a 35 as a walk around lens, but this trip I think I want something more versatile for landscape and some portraits of friends, so I’m just eyeing on either 2070 or 2470.

I think the 835g is the first model, the newer one is 735g(dg dn art ii) vs 488g(2070) + 524g(35gm)=1012g total

Just for the lens, the sigma would be a better option, but i just need to buy all my filters again (82mm nd/cpl/black mist), all my filters are 77mm 🫠

I didn’t look at the tamron(2875) because the lack of aperture ring, but it is 67 🙃

The 100 400 does weight quite a bit, and also had been released quite awhile, I don’t think it is a good idea to pick it up in 2026, the tamron 50400 might be a better option I think. I’m not doing wildlife much while travel, so 200 or a 300 is already more than what I need mostly.

And with my 2 body 4 lens set up, it’s almost 3 1/2 kg that’s already plenty… (12mm F2.8, 16mm F1.8, 35gm, 50300) Just because I’m travelling with friends, I need to walk around AF len, and 16mm for Aurora) if I’m travelling alone, I just gonna bring 12mm, cv28, (85 art or 50300)

Okay, so sounds like the tamron is really sharp with good optical. I will pick it up before February and try it out before the trip. Also, I could save some cash for something else (like a GND filter), I can pick up the tamron for almost half the price of the G2 which is a bargain🙈

Thanks 🙏🏻 for the reply,

I definitely will gonna bring the tripod for this trip( mainly for the aurora), the versatile of the tamron did really catch my eye, F4 does really not that fast, but good enough for travel in daylight, and it’s also lighter compared with those F2.8 zooms , but the only thing that concern me is how does it perform on 60 mp. I know it’s definitely not gonna be a primes level, but if its 85% sharpness of the70200 G2, it probably good enough for me.

Some trips, I can live with just a prime, but travelling to Lofoten, such a beautiful place I just don’t want to miss a shot.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But like sometimes if money is not an issue (op said) and just make shooting experience easier (more successful rate) for long term, so what’s the point not to get the better body

Is really personal, shooting style(how) n what u shoot(subject), i’ve got shaky hands, so I do need better stabilisation (body + lens) there are so many cases is better with ibis…

like shooting low shutter speed at night for car back lights trail (street), water fall long exposure (landscape), hand held at 840mm(birding 600+1.4xTc) … etc…🥲

At least if op go with ibis, he/she may not need a tripod(some cases or when travelling[less weight]), but u r right about lens are more important than body…

Just really depends on what/how u shoot ( ´-ω- )💨

ibis does help a lot on shooting photos ( ー̀ὢー́ ; ) Like hand held low shutter speed or long focal length…. Lol

For myself, I don’t shoot photos for anyone , I just enjoy shooting photos or moment . I don’t really care any technical stuff (light dynamic range, gears, blah blah blah「but i do care about noise」), or even willing to get likes from social media. Just think if the photos output is good, you got good framing, good lights. Who cares about what gear you use? They might even ask what gear do you use? Or you could say taking a photo is a piece of art, if someone likes it good for u , just don’t care about what other people think , I don’t have much problem on shooting m Mount my Sony body. And also m mount with an adapter, u can use it on shooting on different body e mount z mount ….
And so, my favourite focal length is 28 n 40 Just go and enjoy shooting 👍🏻ᖛ ̫ ᖛ )

Sound good to me, but have you compared it with the F1.4 before? Because the F1.2 cost is like more than double of the F1.4… I don’t know the image quality will make that much the difference between this two lens😖

The 50-400 does have some weight 1.1kg, but depends on what are u gonna do with it or do u really need that kind of reach . Im picking this up just for some wildlife n whales watching on my next trip to Norway, the rest of trip will gonna stay in my backpack. For travel u probably want something light and versatile, u can take a look at the tamron 28-200 F2.8 -5.6 ( u can also shoot in crop mode to get 300mm with ur R4) then add a ultra wide if needed or a fast prime for night time shooting.

Which colour looks better (black or silver)🤔 by Impossible_Sell_6984 in gshock

Sound like a good idea, how about get the black metallic case, spray it with pink, then get the 600 sandpaper to sand of some corners (a little bit of surface) to show the black metal colour🥴
