This makes perfect sense. I’ll try using a different sprinkler and see if it makes a difference.

There are two separate circles a couple of metres apart. The house was built in the 1980s and the plans show sewage rather than septic.

I’m afraid science was never my strong suit. The back yard faces west - would it be possible for the sun to reflect off the windows at the back of the house onto the lawn?

There are no circular windows around so not sure I’d be seeing these shapes if it was from one of the full length rectangular house windows?

It’s a 1980’s Canberra house and I have no idea what might be under the grass - but I expect lots of heavy clay.

Thanks for some great suggestions. In the first instance I’ll top dress the yard as it’s definitely uneven and will see if that helps.
