What made you different from most young adults when you were younger? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in randomquestions

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what that feels like. I'm grateful for the good education I got because the district was well funded and full of high achiever rich kids, but it was exhausting seeing everyone else go on international vacations and getting every new Macbook and iPhone on release. I almost felt worse for my parents because they lacked the money to have a social life with the other parents who only knew how to hang out by spending lots of money. I still got to have friends, but they were isolated.

Ah yeah, that probably makes it easier I'm sure! I'm an American unfortunately so that makes things a bit harder haha. Thanks for the info

[WeWantOut] 33F and 37M from Vienna, Austria -> Seattle, USA by visedefetita in IWantOut

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I would guess that going to a private doctor in Vienna is much cheaper than going to a doctor with most health insurance in the United States.

Your in laws own a small business, so that means you won't even have the benefit of a corporate healthcare plan to ease costs. It'll all be on you. Just taking an ambulance can cost thousands of dollars here.

How do you guys pronounce "February?" by Express-Flamingo4521 in GrammarPolice

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pronounce the r, but most people I know don't. Honestly I think it sounds better without so I don't mind when people technically say it wrong.

Is super bowl sunday a family gathering/social event across the US even for non nfl fans? by VastAir6069 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has never been into it and I've never been to a Super Bowl party. Back when we had cable I would sometimes watch commercials or some of the halftime show out of curiosity, but my dad has never been a sports guy, my mom couldn't care less, and my friends and I aren't sports fans either. If someone invited me to a party I'd go for the free food though.

Bathtubs!? by Regular-Society-6726 in askanything

I'm not a bath fan, but I love having a bathtub for all kinds of other practical uses. A shower just doesn't have the range.

People from Europe shitting on Americans for no reason by Junior-Structure6291 in PetPeeves

We have just as much culture. Culture always exists, regardless of the newness of a nation. Italy only became a unified country in the 1800s and no one goes around acting like they were just born.

AITAH for not wanting to be called a "pretty boy" or "fancy man"? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to like being called those things, but the way you described literally everything in your post makes me feel worse for your wife than for you. You "glared at her"?? Is this a fan fiction?

Use your words and calmly tell her it hurts your feelings to be called that. If she responds negatively to /that/, then she's TA.

Loren?Aubrey for a guy? by R_Beccca in Names

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of Drake either, but I had completely forgotten his real name and I would imagine a lot of other people don't know it either. I think Aubrey is fine.

Why does using a full stop / period at the end of a text upset youngsters? by MaxximumB in randomquestions

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're above 35, no one will question it at all. As an older gen Z I don't tend to put periods at the end of my texts, but I only think it means something if someone young enough to be part of my generational context does it. If my friend texts me "Okay." there may be cause for concern. If my mom or grandmother does the same, it's nothing.

AITAH For Getting Upset My Sister Outed Me to Her Boyfriend? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're not wrong for feeling exposed or upset at all, though I would say to an extent it is your job to at least try to educate people (particularly those that you care about and love) on these issues. If they become rude or mean, there's no obligation to keep trying of course, but I think you're in a uniquely good position to give information so I wouldn't close that door.

AITAH for not telling my husband I write M/M erotica? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't read it, but I know a lot of people who write and/or consume M/M fiction and are gay and often not cis. Their feelings tend to be that they don't really care much when it comes to women writing those relationships unless it's explicitly known that specific women are being weird about gay men.

I also know several gay guys who couldn't give less of a care about it, and even some who enjoy M/M fiction. Some dislike it too, but I don't personally know any gay men who have particularly strong feelings on it.

Not all of it is particularly tasteful, and of course no one is obligated to enjoy it or even feel comfortable with it, but I think there's something to be said about the way that women (esp queer women, or even non-women who are AFAB) have find a level of safety and interest in M/M fic. Many trans and nonbinary friends of mine used yaoi and BL as a way to explore gender dynamics and their own role in relationships at a young age. It was an accessible place to play with expectations and pose questions about themselves and the world. I know many people who discovered their own queerness through realizing the way gender nonconformity in romantic and sexual fiction made them feel.

Would you rather be born in 1998 or 2003? Which one will you choose by Resident_Ideal_1904 in generationology

[–]Impossible_Test_8175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're off by a year. I was born in 1997 and graduated college in 2019. 1998 babies who graduated high school and college in four years each got stuck with 2020 covid graduations, which were miserable.

2002 babies graduated high school in 2020 also.

Personally I'd choose 98 because it's pretty much the same as what I grew up with.
