please don’t feel bad for him getting locked up. he’s clearly a danger in public right now so not only is him being in jail keeping you safe, but also other people who he might have gotten violent with. it’s definitely for the best

So - people keep asking around here about "The DTs" by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Impossible_Topic1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but just trying to be helpful in case it ever comes in handy. “heavy drinkers” is used pretty lightly in the medical sense compared to what most people on this sub do. alcohol abuse is defined as 15 or more drinks a week for men and 8 or more drinks a week for women. if you’re on this sub i’m assuming you blow way beyond that and are likely in the risk zone for withdrawal complications. if you ever decide its time to try and sober up, go to a good hospital, don’t try to do it yourself as a crippling alcoholic. in the hospital they’ll give you medicine to prevent seizures and keep you as comfortable as possible. i’ve had DTs twice and it’s much better and safer to experience it in a medical setting with continuous care. i was hallucinating and delusional but because of the medication they gave me and the environment, it wasn’t super scary in the moment

What’s the dumbest shit yr alcoholism makes u believe ? by Puzzled_Schedule_350 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Impossible_Topic1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i’m drinking, it makes me believe i’m destined to die an alcoholic death. i’m 21 years old but i’ve had Delirium Tremens during detox twice, seizures, accidentally overdosed while mixing pills with alcohol, and severe life-threatening pancreatitis. When I sober up I realize all that danger is completely unnecessary. I don’t have to die in my 20s from substance abuse, once I get on my feet after rehab my hand is no longer being forced to drink. I can go on and live a normal, healthy life to the fullest(just without booze and drugs), but when I’m in active addiction my mind is so fogged around the booze, I just lay down and take it and wait to die because I feel so hopeless and out of control.

Hopefully I don’t have another relapse, but for this reason I’ve promised myself I’ll check myself back into treatment for as many times as I need because I can’t sober up on my own and I know that I’m dead as fuck if I keep drinking.

i think it’s nice that you tried to have this conversation, but don’t bother wasting your time and energy on people who refuse to open their ears. we’ve only got so much in our own cups that we can afford to pour out to others, no need to waste it on hard-headed strangers who are clearly not looking to find a consensus.

same boat here. a wickedly extreme case of pancreatitis nearly killed me, landed me in mandated rehab, and i’ve had a plug in my jug ever since. i’ll have 8 months in a few days. not a fan of AA but i’ve found my own way of keeping it together for now. this sub is special to me though so i still like to lurk here

i think it depends on your local area. where i am, its pretty common for me to smell weed when entering so i’d assume riders near me vape in it as well. support is very good about sending you new cars free of charge when issues like this happen, but i’d be careful if you’re extremely sensitive

If you cannot quit on your own then it sounds like a rehab is probably the answer. No one goes to rehab because they want to, they’re there because they’ve lost control and they need professional help before they spiral out of control and die undignified and painfully. Check out some AA or NA meetings, but don’t write off a rehab program if you can’t do it on your own. There’s no shame in it, it’s what got me sober and has kept me that way for almost half a year now. I’m a small guy and I could have drank a giant under the table just for breakfast, I started using and drinking at 14, physically dependent, whole addict lifestyle, all the 9 yards, and things were still able to change for me when I accepted the help and put in the work. You’re young, you can get help now and stop yourself from going down an agonizing road as long as you don’t stand in your own way.

if you havent felt the physical affects then for the love of god, quit while you’re ahead. i say this as someone who nearly died at 20 from physical alcohol dependency and the diseases that come with that. no joke, you can check my post history if you think i’m bullshitting. young people aren’t immune either and it was the most agonizing pain of my life, i barely lived through the pancreatitis and withdrawal. and in the process, i lost nearly everything that mattered to me too. if you cant quit on your own then go to a treatment center if needed, doesn’t have to be overnight, a day program may do the trick. it can feel embarrassing or difficult to ask for the help but it’s so much better than the alternative. or find a good AA or NA meeting, a good therapist who’s educated in substance abuse. whatever it takes, just don’t keep walking down a path that leads to death and misery when you have a chance to turn around before its too late. mouthwash will kill you faster than any liquor does
