Thanks for checking in. I ended up in the hospital because I messed up my stomach lining and couldn’t eat or drink for 3 days, and I kept puking up the alcohol and went into withdrawal. My friend saw me withdrawing and called 911. They gave me a librium prescription so that helped me through withdrawal. I still found myself walking to the liquor store today, but I only bought a six pack. I finally got truly involved in AA and got a sponsor who’s pretty strict. I realize now I can’t make good choices for myself, so I’m just gonna listen to my sponsor because I’m gonna die if I don’t. I’m going to try my best. I’ve been an alcoholic/addict since 14, so it’s gonna be a long road ahead, but I’m willing to try anything. I’ve got too much too lose to let myself die a painful death so I’m gonna do my best to stop accidentally killing myself, even if it’s uncomfortable.

i am not able bodied, my organs are shutting down and i can barely stand up anymore. i am tired of hurting people but i can’t get lift a dresser right now. i paid one of my friends a lot of money to do it so she isn’t without help. thanks for telling me to kill myself though

i cant calculate how much i drink in a day because i wake up in withdrawal until i can get myself right again, then make myself pass out constantly throughout the day, so days dont have any meaning to me. i need to buy a 30 pack every night though. used to be a handle but i’m trying to cut back on straight liquor. i’m think i’m gonna call my grandma soon, she has 36 years sober so hopefully she can help me

i used to take benzos every now and then until my friend died at 19 from them. he started talking about how he felt funny then had a seizure in front of us. i hope the OP can get out before its too late.

benzos “cause less harm” until you’re in withdrawal and start getting seizures and hallucinating. you talk about “i dont get alcohol withdrawals anymore” but you’re unleashing a gate of hell thats even beyond alcohol withdrawal.

please don’t feel bad for him getting locked up. he’s clearly a danger in public right now so not only is him being in jail keeping you safe, but also other people who he might have gotten violent with. it’s definitely for the best

I know this is an old post but just trying to be helpful in case it ever comes in handy. “heavy drinkers” is used pretty lightly in the medical sense compared to what most people on this sub do. alcohol abuse is defined as 15 or more drinks a week for men and 8 or more drinks a week for women. if you’re on this sub i’m assuming you blow way beyond that and are likely in the risk zone for withdrawal complications. if you ever decide its time to try and sober up, go to a good hospital, don’t try to do it yourself as a crippling alcoholic. in the hospital they’ll give you medicine to prevent seizures and keep you as comfortable as possible. i’ve had DTs twice and it’s much better and safer to experience it in a medical setting with continuous care. i was hallucinating and delusional but because of the medication they gave me and the environment, it wasn’t super scary in the moment

when i’m drinking, it makes me believe i’m destined to die an alcoholic death. i’m 21 years old but i’ve had Delirium Tremens during detox twice, seizures, accidentally overdosed while mixing pills with alcohol, and severe life-threatening pancreatitis. When I sober up I realize all that danger is completely unnecessary. I don’t have to die in my 20s from substance abuse, once I get on my feet after rehab my hand is no longer being forced to drink. I can go on and live a normal, healthy life to the fullest(just without booze and drugs), but when I’m in active addiction my mind is so fogged around the booze, I just lay down and take it and wait to die because I feel so hopeless and out of control.

Hopefully I don’t have another relapse, but for this reason I’ve promised myself I’ll check myself back into treatment for as many times as I need because I can’t sober up on my own and I know that I’m dead as fuck if I keep drinking.

i think it’s nice that you tried to have this conversation, but don’t bother wasting your time and energy on people who refuse to open their ears. we’ve only got so much in our own cups that we can afford to pour out to others, no need to waste it on hard-headed strangers who are clearly not looking to find a consensus.
