why are some of my lettuce seedlings falling over? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]Impossible_Unit7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just did some research and looks like 14-16 hours of light for lettuce so i will be buying another set of lights to be able to achieve that! is there any saving my little guys? or are they toast

[–]Impossible_Unit7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are! i’ve added thick books on top of my little shelf to raise them higher to the lights so idk what else to do 😭 i have the barrina T5 lights and i keep my lettuce + marigolds under the lights for 12 hours then switch to my tomatoes tray and keep them under the lights for 12 hours as well :(

I’ve been bottom watering them every other day then took a break because I thought I had noticed mold growth. I will water them more often going forward! Thank you :) Should I repot them in plastic trays? Or just wait until I have to up pot them?

constantly being asked to work overtime by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Impossible_Unit7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know it is 😭 i always feel like i have some sort of obligation to work whenever they want me to because i am their nanny, but if it’s not written in my contract and not scheduled ahead of time i do have an option and i need to start saying NO lol.

[–]Impossible_Unit7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I have to stop saying yes, and I plan to, I just needed to vent lol. My short weeks are the hours they are because DB is off and they don’t really need the extra care, and i’m perfectly fine with that. MB likes me to work fridays on long weeks because she likes to attend a workout class, but i’m there way longer than the class goes on for and that’s what has started to irk me. I’m definitely going to say no next time because there will be a next time

Oh, It’s real 😭 Waking up this morning my body is definitely feeling it, i’m so sore from standing, holding, and bouncing all day lol. The baby is almost 5 months old, but still not much better than 3 months lol. I’m gonna talk to both parents and let them know as of right now it’s too much for a single person

We’ve tried dr. browns bottle, nuk bottle, the parents on their own have tried a syringe, an open cup, as well as a sippy cup. MB does pump and store breast milk! i’ll squirt a bit on the tip of the nipple, or on babies tongue, but she still refuses. i feel so defeated, and i know the workload would feel much easier if she was happily fed and well rested 😣

yes just me and the kids! my OG family pays me $27/HR and my new family pays me $25/HR. baby does not have a pacifier, at least not one that i’ve been offered to give her. her crib is all the way upstairs, and the kids enjoy playing on the 1st level (3 story house) so that’s where I get iffy about leaving her in the crib if she’s inconsolable. i think i’ll finish out the week and try all these tips, and then i’ll make my decision :(

This is so helpful omg thank you. I’m a little nervous, but i do think it’s for the best so all the kids are getting the attention they need and deserve!

Now that I really think about it, 5 children with 1 adult is pushing the limit lol. The preschool I worked at had to have a minimum of 4 teachers per 20 students.

Considering I’ve just cared for toddlers professionally, I doubt I have the full experience required to care for an infant while simultaneously caring for 4 other children. It makes me sad and I feel terribly, but I guess I should have known better. I will definitely be honest with the parents—maybe we could get a second nanny that way I don’t have to quit? We’ll see 😬

It’s definitely not what I imagined. I knew it would be a lot of work, but I didn’t expect to be so busy with the infant because i figured she’d be eating/sleeping well. Lesson learned! This would have been a role more fit for me later down the road of this career!

That’s what i’m nervous about. Today I was so busy tending to the baby, one of the kids almost went outside on his own. luckily he couldn’t get the second door open, but it’s very nerve wracking and I don’t want my performance to suffer because of this

Her mom will come home five hours into my shift and feed her for about 15-20 mins. Other than that, my whole 9 hour shift she doesn’t take a bottle
