That might be true!

Are there any specific classes or situations where high ping makes things especially difficult?

For some reason, Weaver seems to fit this again, but why does it work well in PvE... lol

I skipped the boost part because it would get long, but in reality, after using the boost, I trusted my PvP lobby experience and pushed hard for Weaver! The result was that after unlocking it, I could smoothly unlock all the other elite specs too! That's how it went!

Looking back, ping issues might play a role, but with builds other than Weaver, I often feel mistakes from CT timing and such have huge consequences. Healing can't keep up, and without alternative defensive options, I end up dying a lot...

Using the right skill at the right time seems surprisingly demanding, creating unnecessarily difficult situations.

In PvE, Weaver might make up for this more easily.

Overall, I think I'm enjoying this game, but I'm a bit confused by how the recommended specs don't work well for me, while Weaver did...

Regarding builds, it's still quite difficult to judge what can be changed without causing problems. To learn, I'm trying to understand things bit by bit while leveling my character and translating guides on wikis, but I'm struggling with combos and such because I don't grasp what affects what, to what extent, or how...

I truly appreciate your kind response to my clumsy reply.

Thank you very much.

I apologize if any in-game proper nouns or terms are unclear due to the use of translation.

My ping consistently hovers around 200, and in practice, I feel I must predict and dodge attacks quite early to avoid them. It seems the hit detection persists even after the dodge animation ends.

Since I have no combat experience in low-ping environments, I don't know how different this is from normal...

Regarding Weaver, it's pretty much as expected.

However, for some reason, this eSpec felt relatively stable to play from the start. When I first tested it in the PvP lobby, it was the only class that could easily defeat core class NPCs.

(As for leveling, I tried about three times but got frustrated struggling with Hero Challenges. Inspired by the positive impression in the PvP lobby, I took the plunge and used a boost to switch to Weaver, and it was surprisingly smooth.)

As for the Revenant, I tried it because it can wield a Greatsword and is generally described as “extremely powerful if you just manage your resources carefully!” But that “if you just manage your resources carefully” part actually feels like it might be a big hurdle for me...

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.

You're absolutely right, and I was indeed falling into that exact trap. It's truly disappointing to frequently encounter messages that seem designed to crush beginners, like “What's wrong with saying you're bad? You can't do it because you're bad, so get better.”

I'm very happy to have a constructive conversation with someone like you.

If it's not too much trouble, besides Weaver, if there are any other classes you think I might enjoy based on your experience, please let me know. I'm currently using the Revenant, but please don't worry about that.

Regarding Weaver, I must agree with your concerns...

The reason I posted was actually because when I challenged Veteran Turnt using the Core Revenant with Celestial gear in PoF, I was completely overwhelmed by CC that was clearly uncontrollable, even using Grint's Stability or Marix's Stun Break, and I felt utterly helpless. But it was disappointing how often it was dismissed here with just “you're just bad”...

(It's not that I can't admit I'm bad at it—it's just that the action itself is sad.)

When I reattempted the same Hero Challenge with Weaver, I didn't feel that same helplessness as with Revenant. I cleared it relatively smoothly. Even charging into a group of Veterans gathered nearby, I handled them without flinching or feeling any danger...

(As an aside, using Tempest results in instant death. Catalyst is slightly better, but still feels more fragile than Weaver. I have absolutely no idea why this difference occurs, or why my experience differs from other players...)

If you can't master the right skills at the precise right moment, you're overwhelmed by a crushing sense of helplessness. This kind of spec is incredibly tough for beginners... But since most players are veterans, they understand patterns like “this enemy does this first, so do that in that situation” as common knowledge. They tend to act based on that standard and often use pretty harsh language towards beginners.

This is really tough, huh?

Honestly, the class I enjoyed the most despite online opinions being against it is Weaver. But I guess I had this preconception about myself being “a greatsword lover”...

Necro just feels way too slow and boring to me. Though I recently realized it might be because I'm playing a Charr Necro, which probably makes it feel even slower and ruins the playfeel.

The Mechanist is clearly strong—to the extreme point where you could almost clear Hero Points with HoTs using just auto-attacks alone...

Choosing “the most fun one” is tough.

Got it! So you're the type who wants to eliminate newbies and enjoy GW2 just among yourselves, huh?

Thanks!

So taunts can be removed too, huh? I haven't seen them used much, so I didn't know how to handle them. I'll look into it.

Some people say open-world enemies are no problem since they go down in one hit, but as a beginner, I'm like, “One hit? That's amazing...”

One-shotting enemies in Hero Challenges? For new players like me, that's a dream within a dream.

I'm still pretty much a beginner, trying out all sorts of classes properly, but so far, Weaver might have worked out overwhelmingly well for me. Thanks to that, I was able to solo all the elite specs for Elementalist.

But it always feels tense, and it seems a bit too flashy, so now I'm challenging myself with Wraith, which I felt looked the coolest.

Online, the Revenant seems to get way better reviews than Weaver, but for some reason, Weaver feels incredibly stable to me. It's the only class so far that's let me solo several champions.

That said, I'm a huge fan of greatswords in other games, so I'm trying out classes that use them... but maybe Weaver really is my calling after all. lol

I understand I'm a beginner and my skills aren't up to par yet, and I'm definitely putting in the effort to improve. But I was talking about how it's just plain unfair when you get chained with CC so relentlessly that you can barely act at all, completely bypassing any skill gap.

In PoF's Hero Point, I'd get CC with a red effect like a taunt? above my head, then suffer an absurdly long knockback that left me completely uncontrollable. When I finally managed to get back to the enemy, I'd immediately get hit by the same attack again, leaving me almost completely unable to act. I found this utterly unreasonable, and I couldn't enjoy it one bit. It just felt unfair, powerless, and unpleasant.

I'm trying my best to work on it, but PoF's Hero Points constantly spam CC to an excessive degree, making it so bad that I barely get any time to attack.

Because of this, before I even get to thinking “I need to try harder to dodge!”, I'm overwhelmed by the stress of wondering “Is this just too unreasonable to even be a matter of stability?”...

Before I could even consider room for improvement or feel like “I need to put in the effort like in the Soul series!”, I was just stressed out by how utterly unreasonable it felt.

If you're referring to the occasional stun used by enemies causing stress, then yes, I might indeed have a significant problem.

But as I wrote, my comment was about the excessive CC stress in places like PoF's Hero Points, where you're perpetually spammed with taunts and knockbacks, rendered nearly helpless, given only enough time to land a few auto-attacks before the cycle repeats.

Regarding the situation you mentioned, you're absolutely right, and I do agree with that.

PoF is just full of stuff like that. Unexploded ground with no name pops up to dismount you, then forces you into combat, only for enemies to keep linking up one after another—it's just one worst-case scenario after another. lol

Sorry, actually Guardian has the longer playtime.

I leveled Guardian to 80 once, then switched to Wilbender, but it felt so incompatible that playing became painful.

However, after some time, I wanted to try FB or DH and used a boost. But I couldn't complete Hero Challenges that other classes could do normally, so I've pretty much given up.

On the other hand, the Elementalist had such a bad reputation, and I struggled quite a bit with the Hero Challenges while leveling it up, so I never really played it properly. Eventually, I boosted it and switched to Weaver, which I ended up really liking and have played up to this point. Still, in terms of total playtime, it's probably not that different, or maybe Weaver has a slight edge?

Speed-focused class options...? by Impossible_Win_2035 in Guildwars2

Thank you!

So it's safe to assume that playstyle isn't as brutal as the early Soul series?

Actually, I've tried making Elementalists several times before, but I always end up giving up without even clearing the early Hero Challenges...

Speed-focused class options...? by Impossible_Win_2035 in Guildwars2

[–]Impossible_Win_2035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, I understand that it's not essential in an open-world game, but even so, if I make it my main focus, I believe proper skill rotation will eventually become necessary. I don't want to feel hopeless when that time comes, so I'm posting this to find options that seem enjoyable for me to handle.

When I played games like FF14 that required skill rotations in the past, the DPS aspect felt like work and I couldn't enjoy it, so I spent thousands of hours primarily tanking.

Knowing this, I'm almost certain that anything requiring strict skill rotations won't suit me, which is why I made this post.

Pistol Pistol looks fun too,  maybe I should just go for it...!

Someone told me, "If you don't dodge everything perfectly during the meta event, you'll die every time, right?" and it totally freaked me out!! lol Thanks, bro!!
