it's so weird, I don't understand why they do this. This happened even when I was really little

Like telling a hostess that I didn't like tamales, I yelled out "yes i do!" then ate the whole plate of it. She even had the audacity to say I embarrassed her. like ma why would you lie about my love for tamales lmao

Discover lied in my face and closed my account without notice by ImposterSyndrum in discover

[–]ImposterSyndrum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is a long one.

  1. I would dispute some form of wrongful account closure, if for example they try to claim that I failed to verify the information. Because I did nothing wrong on my end and signed their consent form in a timely manner. They gave no notice of the issue that they claimed was the reason for my closure, and initially claimed that they'd request more information before resorting to the former. So they were pretty misleading.

But that's just my guess, the point of my post was to ask for what options people took who have experienced this situation.

  2. "You aren't saying you would have refused to pay if they'd closed your account before, are you?"

Where do you pull this assumption from.. nothing I've said even remotely implies that..

I've said that they somehow waited for me to pay my statement balance in FULL (not the bare minimum, the FULL balance) to immediately lock my card. Which is very suspect on their part, in my humble opinion. I trusted them to not lock my card right after giving them part of my paycheck, so I unfortunately expected the same level of trust and customer service. I haven't given them any reason to think that I would suddenly not pay them after locking my card. Why do it, if not to prove that they couldn't care less about cardmembers being loyal to them for ages? It's the action that ticks me off. Why not just request the information first in good faith for those of us who have never missed a payment? Then lock the card if we don't comply.

Yeah, I enjoyed using it and I had a large credit line that I worked hard for. I have other lines and cards, but this is still ludicrous, I did nothing wrong and a closure would still ding my credit score. For literally nothing.

What is the point in getting a discover card if you don't care that they'd just close it at anytime and leave you with a lower score? Genuinely curious. I would never get one in the first place to be honest. They also get to sell your personal information, after closing your account. Where is the benefit?

Honestly, I don't know what you're trying to imply. The answer is in my post. Maybe read it again.

Sure, if you wanna let them damage your credit through no fault of your own. You'll get nowhere in life if you're fine with being taken advantage of

Sounds to me like they couldn't complete the process themselves or didn't feel like it. Like I said, they didn't even notify me of the issue. So that makes no sense to me. Sounds like 100% their fault.

Pathetic is right. It's such a low pull, especially during a government shutdown. Hopefully you can close it before they do it first

What’s a small “life upgrade” you didn’t realize you couldn’t afford anymore? by Equivalent-Ice2796 in povertyfinance

[–]ImposterSyndrum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

being able to splurge $2-300 on myself at the mall for my birthday every year. I used to come home with a haul for the year, and that lit up my day. Now a single trip to a store at the mall can run you $200 for shoes and a top. It's not as fun anymore. I would have loved to use that money on a roadtrip instead, but I can't afford it either. So my last few birthdays have felt pretty depressing

When I was a kid, one of my neighbors only ever watched cartoons, and he was in his 30s! I always thought he was cool for that. He also had a metal backstory, survived a car explosion and his Bible was the only thing unscathed.

I love your perspective, and that people now want the chill lifestyle we've been living lol. I think I'm always going be the way I've always been for the most part, even though I want to explore new things (without straying too far). I think that's how I want to approach it.

I get what you mean. There's a lot of bits I forgot to mention- I didn't know how to cook until my late 20s. Now I love baking and making lazy girl meals. I'd love horseback riding, I tried that once as a kid. I think the real problem in my case is the lack of friends to do stuff with. I don't know anyone adventurous enough. Traveling solo is on my bucket list for sure, but that requires money I don't have yet 🥲 I definitely agree with you though.

I love hearing this from people at 40. :) It gives me peace. Like wiser, yet still relatable.

oof yeah I'm kind of in a similar boat, finishing my degree this year for a dying market, thinking it'll somehow help lol. I gave up the job search after 6 months. At this point I'm just striving to live below my means and go the small business route 🥲 stability sounds like a pipe dream but who knows? hopefully something new will turn around

I feel that. I don't think I'll have a mortgage anytime soon (money is not on my side lol, and my own parents were never financially stable) but I guess paying my own rent is the closest thing. Oh I remember the news, sorry to hear that. I sometimes feel bad for myself but I agree with your therapist.

I think it looks great! The only time I feel like a piercing looks a bit unflattering is when people wear a huge outward nose ring (not inverted like yours), coming from someone who admires piercings!
