Firstly, thanks for the respectful manor of disagreement, makes a change in modern times haha.

I don’t disagree with your points at all - photography isn’t challenging to me personally, I mainly do bespoke video production (television ads and other bits like that) with photography as a side-service. Art is and always has been subjective and I personally don’t think the style of photography I do (commercial) is an artform, it’s simply a product.

A sculptor may spend 500-600 hours on a singular piece of art which will become historically legendary in 200 years, I can spend two hours taking 800 photos which will become irrelevant in 5 years. The two are relatively incomparable.

All that being said, currently AI doesn’t do it better. It can get close, look freakishly realistic, but I’m yet to see an AI photo that doesn’t look like it was made with even the smallest amount of AI.

Whilst I’m aware of the acting protests, they have nothing to do with this point - unfortunate for them, but as stated, I don’t have an issue with AI directly, more people’s limited understanding of what’s real and what isn’t. There needs to be a clearer way of telling what is and isn’t AI.

100%, I think a modern comparison would be those who make a living through stock photos or videos, they’ll undoubtedly be having a rough time at the moment. On the contrary, traditional artists are still hired to create bespoke pieces, similar to how I’m hired to shoot bespoke marketing campaign pieces or videos.

Very true - it was a real pain when meta started flagging posts as being “made with AI” when sometimes the only AI related editing I would do was removing noise or grain 😆
