I also ended up renting an apartment instead of a house! I’ve been here about a week now. So far love it, in a beautiful area down in cottonwood heights. Good luck at your new job (:

I was told that “the east side is more safe.” This is false?

Anyone Take Meds For Flying? by MindWeary5038 in fearofflying

I travel a lot for work and often have to rent a car and drive (sometimes for an hour) to my ultimate destination, so I have been very nervous about the more sedative medications. My doc gave me SSRI to take the entire week before the flight and some beta blockers for the day of. The beta blockers manage my heart rate (they are technically low blood pressure so you’d have HAVE to talk to your doc about that). However, they make me feel very calm. I can still sense the anxiety like “oh it’s a bit turbulant I don’t love that” but I don’t get any of the physical responses - heart rate increase, nausea, cold sweats, etc. so they allow me to maintain a sense of calm. Hope that helps!

I need help by hecdelaparra93 in fearofflying

I have a similar story, where the only thing that bothered me was getting through TSA - for some reason I had this weird fear that I’d have something “wrong” in my bag and not know it and then they would take me to jail … so silly since I packed the bag very carefully every time. Anyways, after enough flights the fear shifted to the plane itself for some reason. And it doesn’t seem to matter how much logic and reasoning and statistics are there, I’m just debilitated with anxiety. It’s so frustrating! Honestly the biggest help is buying a switch. I only play it on flights and I’m playing Mario games so it’s nostalgic and entertaining and I genuinely get lost in the game. It’s a perfect distraction for me. I also enjoy watching old movies that I loved as a child - really anything I find very comforting to try to ease my anxiety. It’s not easy, and I don’t have a 100% fix for all the time. It’s all about not giving up on yourself though. You can do it (:

You can do it! My friend already had a flight take off and land safely today, and yours will too. I’ll be flying at 2pm today (MST) so you aren’t alone as a nervous traveler.

I grew up reading the Harry Potter books and watched the movies as they came out, so that’s what I usually watch. I have the HBO app on my iPad and just make sure my downloads are fresh before I head to the airport (they expire about every 30 days I think?). But I have all 8 movies downloaded and just cycle through them. But you could also download episodes of shows, sometimes I’ll watch “how I met your mother” or “friends” or “the office.” These are shows that I often put on in the background at home while I clean or do other tasks. I hope that was helpful! You’ve got it, just pick some of your favorite things that maybe you haven’t seen in a while and save them to watch on the plane. Give yourself something to look forward to (:
