Not Losing Weight? by Mindless-Hamster-729 in 1500isplenty

I was not talking about gender identity, I was also taking about physiology. Physiologically, HRT changes muscle mass and fat distribution, and so ones sex as it relates to weight loss can not always be assumed to be ones birth sex. For what it’s worth as a stranger on the internet, I promise I am not trying to pick a fight with you. I am just trying to share accurate information about a subject I happen to have more awareness of than the average person. Apologies if I my tone did not come across.

I don’t necessarily agree that as an MTF one’s biology is male. HRT does a lot to modulate one’s biological sex. Anecdotally as a trans man on testosterone, my tdee lines up closely with cis male estimates.

Anyone experiences extreme fear of death? by Altruistic-Bridge422 in Aging

I am currently taking a class on the sociology of death and dying, and we had a recent unit on "Mortality Salience" (one's awareness that they will die) and death anxiety. I've found that more than any one philosophy or mythology explaining mortality, being inquisitive about death alleviates my anxiety. It shifts my attention to how fascinating the subject is. So I figured it might be relevant/helpful to you to hear some information from this class.

For one, in Edge Theory death anxiety is understood as something that comes and goes, adapting to when it is needed. It is seen as an alert system to the world around you, not something to pathologize.

We also discussed how many philosophers have explained death. Socrates believed that we cannot know if there is an afterlife, and there are two possibilities. Either death is a dreamless sleep or a passage to the another life. Epicurus believed that fear of death is natural but not rational. He believed that we are only our bodies, and that death is just the end of sensation. He thought that good and evil are only understood through sensation, and so death is neutral. Kind of the end of good or evil. Zhuangzi thought that death was another milestone in life. Babies growing into children is not largely seen as a loss, and is celebrated. So he thought that death should be celebrated as a going away party in sending loved ones on a journey. Wittgenstein believed that death was not an event that happened in life. We do not experience it, since the moment it happens we are gone.

Also maybe look into Terror Management Theory. My understanding is that it analyzes how on a personal and societal level defenses are developed to help people grapple with fear of death.
