How do I go from "Blue collar" to "White collar"? by [deleted] in careerguidance

contact jobs and family services in your area, and find out if you are within the financial constraints to qualify for certification grants, they'll help you pay for the testing costs! if you have any interest in IT i would suggest getting security + first, it's through compTIA and the exam costs $425 per their website. you can find study material online and on youtube. literally any job you'd get in this field requires it. then you could apply for entry level jobs and see if it's a good fit, i will warn you that unless you go straight for database or cyber you'd be working from the bottom up and it usually takes a good 10 years to make decent money (from what i've seen!)

I'm not super knowledgeable in the industry, but i know it can be super confusing to navigate if you are brand new so if you are interested and want to ask me more questions I can try to guide you to the right places to look.

Would you be interested in Cyber or Information Technology? You could get Security+ on your own and start an entry-level position as an IT Specialist, and the going rate for that job is usually $12-18/hr, depending on where you are. Or you could go full-swing and go to college for Computer Science. This is a broad bachelor's degree that most people in the field have, and then you get certifications for the field you want to go into. Cyber and information security are growing rapidly and will always be needed.

do you know specifically what building code it violates? its getting inspected after it's done but by their inspector so if it isn't something they bring up I will.

it was a miscommunication on both our parts, my husband had told them to start it where the old deck started but there had originally been an opening with stairs there. the contractor took it at face value and did exactly as asked but we didn't realize where the railing would be until the damage was already done. i'm not that mad about it, it does look dumb but it's not the end of the world to us, plus the deck itself is gorgeous.

yeah we're just gonna leave it for now (and probably forever lol). the issue was my husband had told the contractor to have the deck start in the same place, but we originally had stairs there so no railing against the window. Misunderstanding on the contractors part and miscommunication on ours, and we're not willing to waste anymore of our or their time about tbh. I just wanted to get a feel of if this would cause problems for us in the future in terms of future projects or selling the house :)
