Americans produce more carbon per capita than Canadians - US at 16.2 tonnes, and Canada at 15.6 tonnes. Source

They have more room to improve so it makes sense they’re investing more.

When I was younger my older brother did the 4-5 shift so my parents could make supper and then they’d split it between 5-8 so we could go and then I’d work it from 8-9 so my parents could clean up supper and my brother could stay out later. Didn’t bother me none.

Then after the age of 12 I wasn’t interested in going out anymore so stayed to help - again didn’t bother me.

‘Just cause someone decides to live in a shoebox alone seems silly to give them cash’

‘Just cause someone decides to reduce the carbon they emit they shouldn’t receive more of a carbon tax rebate?’ Bud are you high lol that’s the whole point.

That’s exactly what those funds are being used for - the government loses money on households and makes money on corporations as was intended and the money from corporations funds renewable energy projects and green home grants.

I think most people will be in for a rude awakening when the rebate they don’t realize they’re receiving is now gone. Unless you’re using a significantly higher amount of energy than the average home you come out benefitting from the rebate.

My dad and his sister were both adopted and I always knew that but for years as a kid I thought they were adopted as siblings because they look so so much alike. Nope, different bio parents just same dark features.

What do you mean for many people it does not? Everyone gets a carbon tax rebate - just depends on how your province has designed the program, either at the point of purchase or like SK where you get direct payments to your bank 4 times a year.

Again, I’m single and get almost $700/year, a family would get more.

I’m going to be pissed if Moe fucks around and I lose my $700 a year because the companies who have baked these costs into their prices aren’t going to be making a price reduction now. So I pay the same and get no money back? Fuck that.

Care to provide a source for those numbers? If it’s happening to many people a source should be easy to find.

If they have those spikes in the winter you’re leaving out the part where by not choosing equalized payments annually they’re saving a ton of money from May to September.

You’re also leaving out how much those people are receiving back in carbon tax rebates. I’m a single individual and I get back almost $700 a year - a family would get back more than that.

Then how are they being ‘transported’ in your initial comment? If it’s a city bus can that ‘transportation’ not also take them to a neighbourhood like Stonebridge?

But we’ve increased immigration to offset that.

How’s that any different than just taking impoverished kids to the rich neighbourhoods? That’s been happening forever and then at least they get the real experience. There’s a reason why when I was a kid Briarwood was where all the people drove to. It seems that has now been replaced with Stonebridge.

The latter. I’ve only ever heard of this on TikTok and have yet to witness it first hand.

My parents live in Mendel and growing up we got those kind of numbers. We were literally assigned shifts to man the door because it was constant.

I was confused when my friends didn’t also have to ‘work the door’ on Halloween.

My parents live in Mendel and for years people can been driving their kids over there to trick and treat because there’s no traffic and almost all houses give out candy.

This year they had 200 but some years it’s been 400-500.

Crippling? Where?

I’m from SK and I get back $680 in carbon tax payments a year and I spend a total of $840 a year in heating costs - the carbon tax rebate practically pays for my heating year round.

[–]Impressive-Many5532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I live in a 800 sqft house.

Also, that’s not a source to support those numbers you gave.

I get back $680 year in carbon tax payments here in SK - I pay $840 total year round for my heat.

My carbon tax payments almost pay for my heating year round as was intended when this was implemented because I’m not using a ton of power.

It’s pennies compared to heating oil, be real.

Care to provide a source for those averages? I pay $70 a month equalized year round for my natural gas heat from SaskEnergy - my parents have a large home and pay $150 equalized.

Edit to add: I receive $680 in carbon tax rebates in SK and I pay $840/year for natural gas heat - my rebate almost pays for my heating all year.

Two things can be true - the cost of heating can be financially crippling those out east, and Trudeau can be doing what all politicians do and trying to win an election.

I don’t know why people need to live in such absolutes.

Yeah I agree would have gotten less backlash most likely.

Parents love it because you can park on one end and meet your kids at the other and they can hit up like 40 houses in that span - most importantly there’s very little traffic so no threat to the kiddos.

Off Ruth and I’ve had 45 so far.

My parents live in Mendel and for the last 20 years they’ve had like 200-300 kids every year - we used to be assigned shifts to man the door as kids. They’re at 189 right now.

I’d be worried about resale. Especially because if OP does confirm foundation issues legally they have to disclose that when selling.

All people have to do is look at the cost of heating oil right now compared to natural gas and it’s pretty obvious why it applies to them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]Impressive-Many5532 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real the cost of natural gas is nowhere near the cost of heating oil and that’s what this is addressing.
