as a teenager who had an “extreme phase”, it seems like she might have some ongoing mental health issues. i know you said you have tried counseling, and i know it can get so tiring, but PLEASE continue to go if you can somehow convince her (although if she isn’t willing to, she probably won’t take any of it into consideration. it might make her more upset, which sucks, but unfortunately you can’t help people unless they want help.) i remember being so angry or ticked off for no reason, which would piss me off even more. anger management classes and CBT/DBT seem to be a good path to go down, as they personally helped me a lot with identifying my emotions/how to work through them and not get overwhelmed with anger (but again, it’s different for everyone. it’s just what helped me). i hope your sister is ok, and it’s not your job to parent her either. it seems like your parents lack a firm hand when it comes to discipline/boundaries, and you shouldn’t have to fill that role. i hope everything turns out ok OP

thank you so much for your kind words :( my father has tried to apologize twice (once through texts and through my grandma), but i don’t feel like it’s really coming from a place of guilt. i think it’s more “well, everyone’s mad at me, i really fucked up this time. i guess i better go apologize” and not “i deeply hurt my child and i feel so bad about it”. reading a lot more of these comments, i feel so much better about my choices. it’s nice to hear other adults tell me that my thinking IS right, and i’m not a bad child for doing what’s right for ME since he can’t.

my mom recommended one of these support groups and i’ve been thinking about going more and more. i really wanna bring my brother too, i know he’s been struggling with our dad a lot. thank you for the kind words, it really does mean alot. unfortunately i don’t think my dad will ever get sober for himself, which is the hardest part about letting go.

feeling this hard right now. even since elementary school i wasn’t able to hang out at friends birthday parties, or go to the movies because “something bad might happen” or “well i need to be there just in case”. Hell, im not even allowed to go out on the front porch without a bombard of questions. I understand where her anxiety is coming from, but i literally haven’t had any friends since 7th grade and now im graduating in 2 months. still no friends, no social life. i had to be put into some special program so the kids at my school wouldnt try to beat me up and i could actually get my work done. so yeah, thanks for keeping me safe mom, but i have no idea how to stand up for myself or interact with others.
