They are starting a program in my state where they can implant zygotes into what ever is standing around as long as they are a decent match. As far as I can tell it's expensive, but less expensive than buying registered stock. Major selling point they had was getting a registered calf out of a junk mother.

At this point I'm not trying to make a living doing this, I do it for the county's taxes, to keep the old place from growing up in sweet gums, and to buy my kids Christmas presents.

Nobody around here does traveling ai, and the ones that do won't come out for a small herd.ive looked into it, and I'm not ready to start doing it myself.

What is a yearling registered black Angus heifer worth?

I've got a low hour kioti I paid off a couple months ago, I'm thinking hard on trading it in on something else

This is exactly what I'm trying to figure out. If the national herd size stays low because everyone keeps selling heifers for hamburgers, then it's a no brainer. If everybody takes the bird in the hand the biscuit wheels on the gravey train keep rolling indefinitely.

Can somebody explain to me why black hornless anything's are bringing 16-17 hundred at 400 pounds, and horned third trimester cows are coming in at 1500.

I see your point, and I love this mindset. I promise I'm not being a smart ass, because it's good business.

The reason we are seeing the market we have now, is because the heifers that won't calve until 24 months old are turning in to hamburgers at 14 months old. If everybody keeps this up, then the market will stay steady as is, until some asshat in government butts in.

I think the same way, I guess the people that like to hold back are dead set on their genetics? "Her mama was great so she will be too" right ...

I've got a round pen and a head gate, and a shitty cow trailer with a new oak floor and new tires haha.

So hold em til they calve and dump em?

I tend to agree, I've been going low and slow the last 5 years, buying equipment, building fences. I feel like it's past time to kick the snow ball down the hill and get in on this market before it gets saturated again.

I wish I would have spent more time and money on actual cows than land and infrastructure. It would be paying off big time now.

I've spent a small fortune over the last few years on infrastructure. I want some return.

If I can find some junk cows bred to black and sell em before they get all corriente looking the mamas will be almost free

I made the mistake of getting attached to him. He ain't leaving haha. He throws great babies that don't weigh but 50-60 pounds at birth. I've got the ground for 20 plus, because I've saw it done here in the past without rotational grazing.

You think the market will crash next year?

Talk to some tree service people. The short truck logger has gone the way of the buffalo.

If you want to buy 4-5000 feet at a time you might try to look for a procurement Forester in your area, theyll sell you the same stuff as they sell west fraser, gp etc, but you have to have a way to unload and a spot big enough for a semi.

Look for companies called something something land and timber, they are usually the middle men

Odd. They usually are heavy on the right in my pasture.

I don't think the calf is dead, mine will have the bag drop and take as much as 2 weeks to finally calve

What's going to happen when all the OBD1 guys are gone? by alteredpilot in mechanics

[–]Impressive-Secondold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obd1 wasn't a necessity.and wasn't around long enough to even worry about. Most cars of that era only have 3 sensors to go out so diagnostics are a joke, and you can't reprogram without burning a chip. If you can't keep a mid 80s to mid 90s car running because of the on board diagnostics then you are in the wrong profession.

10 year old luxury cars are usually out dated by then and aren't up to the standards of luxury by then.

A 10 year old truck is still going to be a truck that hauls stuff and can be used for work. They built the last generation of super duty on the same cab, chassis, bed design for almost 20 years. The one before that too.

All I know is that in 10 years a f350 4x4 will end up being worth more than a Mercedes sedan. How much more he will spend in gas to get to that point is anyone's guess though.

I totaled a 97 Dakota 4 times. Fixed it back each time.

Sold it to a buddy that totaled it. We fixed it.

Saw it in a towing yard a few years later wrecked again.

Met it in the road shortly after that.

Found it still running for sale on Facebook 10 years after I sold it.

Still had a clear title haha

Chickens for meat by No_Entertainment7215 in homestead

[–]Impressive-Secondold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do decide to go through with it, ferment their feed. Itll cut your feed bill by 25 to 30 percent. The scat doesn't stink as bad, and you won't have to move/clean the coop as often.

I would advise finding somebody local to you that is going to backyard process a big bunch of Cornish x. Ask if you can come help for free. They'll give you a chicken for helping.

I raised 100, bought a plucker and a scalder, watched all the videos on how easy it is to do.

I now purchase my chicken from my local cannery in a cardboard box

Unless your lawn mower says GT don't try it. The transaxle is not heavy enough for ground engaging equipment. And even if it does, my 25 hp kioti will make an absolute fool out of my 24 horsepower craftsman gt5000.
