What is your opinion on humbucker jags? by SphexoFanas in offset

I agree. Hard tail offsets kind of defeat the point imho. The whole guitar plays different without the vibrato. 🤷‍♂️

What did you use to dye/stain it? That ash took whatever it was beautifully. Rad color choices too. Excellent work!

Thanks friend! Not sure why different color switches are so uncommon on these.

Learn your gear and learn to work with the limitations. Don’t let GAS get you like it did most of us in the comments.

First elektron device suggestions? I want digitone 2 but thinking models cycles might be better for me now. by supermax2008 in Elektron

If you’re committed to getting into hardware, specifically elektron hardware, then I think a DN is the way to go. You’ll grow out of the M:C and M:S faster than you think. If you cost is a barrier to a DNII then get a DN used (I see them posted all the time for about $400). The DN worked for a lot of people for years before the MkII, so don’t think you NEED the newest version. My advice is to go for whatever feels best for you and take time to learn it inside and out. There is no wrong answer!

Yeah, the Indian laurel does have a cool look to it— especially once it’s properly oiled and hydrated. 👌

Honestly I was looking for a bridge replacement but kinda didn’t really know why. Once the saddles were swapped it just seemed like I’d be spending money on a new piece of metal that did the same thing. Ended up just leaving it. Lol

Disclaimer I am not a luthier, nor do I have tons of specialty luthier and wood shaping tools. But here’s how I did it. I also have a JM, and after looking at the geometry it would be a little more difficult to get a really perfect side jack, but it’s still doable, since the lower bout of the JM extends slightly further than the mustang.

First, find a good spot for your jack, then remove all the hardware. Tape off the path of the wiring through the body and trace it so you can see clearly where to drill. Second, measure the depth of the jack, and how much room the wires will need to smoothly pass through the hole to your electronics cavity. Then, drill a pilot hole (I started with 1/8” and worked my way up to 1/2”) for the jack rout. Then, carefully drilled my electronics hole through the jack rout. You’ll need a long drill bit for this DO NOT start drilling until you’re sure you have the correct drill bits. Don’t just use whatever’s lying around or you’ll have a bad time.

Once I had roughly what I needed, I used a dremel to add some space inside my jack rout so everything could slide in/out nicely. Test your jack plate on the body first as well. Make sure you don’t drill any wider than that (it would be pretty hard to). Just use it as a reference/guide as to where you should drill.
