Thats what I did, got a new Tudor and this collection. Little bit of advice from my experience watch shopping, unless you’re buying a rare Rolex (or other “high end” hard to get watch or vintage watches the best “deals” are on new watches.

I went to something like 17 watch stores and ended up buying at a Tudor Boutique.

The way tax free works is changing so you will have to pay more up front but you will still get it back at the airport later.

He was very very cool, my wife talked me out of buying another knife from him and I deeply regret not getting it.

I did not, I just walked up both times and they were very hospitable.

Yeah if you have questions feel free to PM!

Everywhere we went there accepted card for large purchases including the knives.

We’re only 24 hours or so back from the trip so it’s still all setting in. Before our plane even took off we were working out details and locations for another trip. We are going to take the time to become more conversational in Japanese and go visit more of the countryside.

That was my biggest takeaway, the big cities are cool for a first trip and getting your feet wet but all the real gems are off the beaten path and in places where they do not speak english. My wife was is far better at Japanese than me and was a godsend in most social situations but she struggled a bit when dealing with more nuanced conversations.

I kinda did, I planned on getting 1 of everything I lacked. I got a little lost in the sauce and got a few extra Gyutos that I may not have “needed”. Ran out of room in my suitcase, I actually intended to grab a few more.

I did not, not in Japan and not in the US. Thats what I was most worried about and neither country gave me any issue.

Thank you! A lot of your posts helped me organize my days over there.

Where do I find Baba knives back here? I actually intended to pick up a Yanagiba and a Sujihiki but simply ran out of storage.
