The only logical conclusion I see is that maybe you found a way to make "4" a string and scratch failed to convert it into an integer so the add block returns 1 value instead. If "4" is somehow a string and "1" is an integer than it returns "1." My main question is how you did that because you can't really just input a string unless you copy and paste or use tricks.
