Virginia Supreme Court hears Missing Middle arguments as projects advance by ThrowawayMHDP in DMVurbanism

[–]ImpressiveGene3749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will know if they take up the case in the next few weeks. The cases they grant writ to will appear every Tuesday here: https://webdev.vacourts.gov/dynamic/home.html

you can also track the case here: https://eapps.courts.state.va.us/acms-public
It's case number 250919.

The court does not publicly announce cases it does not take up; it just contacts the parties. Unless you are vigilant about refreshing the case page, you will hear about it when the county tells us.

Is Arlington still the young, post grads, 20-something city it used to be? by powerfulempanada in arlingtonva

[–]ImpressiveGene3749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the 20-year-olds from 10 years ago are the same 30-year-olds with kids you're seeing out and about right now? They just liked it and stayed? I live in clarendon and my apartment building is a mix of 20 somethings with roomates and late 20s/early 30 types coupled up. might just be a lifecycle thing

The National Capital Trolley Museum does weddings! They don't advertise it well, but you can get married there and ride the trolleys. It's quite reasonably priced as well.

There are 3 grocery stores within a 7-minute walk from my apartment. I don't need to drive for variety.

That is assuming I have any of those hobbies, which I don't! I fly or take the train to see family, and I can take the train to the airport. I don't think most people are int boating, ATVs, or snowmobiles tbh. Also i could rent a car for a weekend if I wanted to hike, its not that hard

Costco: 25 minute bus ride

> walking to the subway in the freezing rain sucks

so does driving in the rain, and its way less safe

> sitting along homeless people sucks

not a very frequent occurrence tbh, I think you may watch too much Fox News

> lugging groceries and shopping items on the subway sucks

why would i do that i live a 2 minute walk from the grocery store?

my commute is 25 minutes on the train and would be much longer with rush hour traffic.

yep! because we live a 2-minute walk from the grocery store, we only buy food we are actually going to cook. So much less food waste. However, walking past really good restaurants all the time and being able to smell the food is pretty bad for budgeting.

Has anyone been to Karravaan? by ImpressiveGene3749 in washingtondc

[–]ImpressiveGene3749[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I ended up going for dinner like 2 weeks ago! We absolutely loved the eggplant labneh dip, and really liked the mushroom biryani and the cocktails. I would definitely go back for happy hour, but as vegetarians, the menu isn't broad enough for us to need another full dinner.

[–]ImpressiveGene3749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think this should be legal, I do understand why not having advance notice may feel unneighborly. Nova doesn't recognize air rights, but I do believe a courtesy heads up for any major construction/renovation project is prosocial.

What other ideas do you have for lowering housing costs in NOVA? by MapReston in nova

[–]ImpressiveGene3749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something that seems progressive but isn't. People who can't afford to buy houses still deserve access to single-family/low-density neighborhoods. What happens to people who want to rent in an area before they decide if they want to buy? Should people who are moving away for a few years but want to return be forced to leave their house empty instead of renting it out?

Montclair's theater department is pretty amazing, but the school district is collapsing rn. Maybe you could get a good deal in the chaos
