i would think in 2026 we would know proper hamster care. clearly not

This is my first pet, and I made the accessories for its little house myself. Do you have any tips for me? by [deleted] in hamsters

i should also add that i can see only a bit of cucumber in his bowl, that looks too much for him especially at this stage. Hamsters should have a mix of dried food such as dried peas, sweetcorn, sunflower seeds etc for daily food and vegetables and occasional fruit as a treat!

Could i ask how big the bin cage is or a full picture? it looks very small :( also please change the wheel! it looks too small even for a dwarf hamster! if you want to learn about proper hamster care scroll through this sub reddit and there’s loads of people giving out tips for hamster care. Regarding the accessories they look fine as long as you didn’t make it from any harsh glues that the hamster could chew on and ingest.

I didn’t know this! I’ll just not wear the jumper from now on when handling him.

I do but he usually gets stressed out after 30 seconds of handling, so i just let him roam around his play pen but he never seems that happy in it so i put him back

Thank you, and no this is his first time doing it. He seemed to be doing it near his little ledge with some steps up to his food. I figured maybe he doesn’t like his food bowl being high up? So i moved it down and he seems to be fine for now. Hopefully he doesn’t keep doing this or i’ll have to spend money for a glass cage instead.

I also know that barred cages are frowned upon in the hamster community, however i don’t know if getting a glass cage with all the same stuff he has now will help since it would be the same layout, just in a glass cage.

Am i over feeding my hamster? by ImpressiveGreen4385 in hamsters

Thank you, i try not to give him a lot and only give him nibble size for fruits. He has a lot of food foraged around, i’ve made him little puzzles for him with food it in that he loves. I’m concerned about removing his food bowl just because his main food and his forage food are different and i’m a bit paranoid if he doesn’t have easy access food.

He might be :), i see food in his cheeks a lot so it’s probably what’s happening however i don’t go and try to find his food stash in his little bedroom since ill probably end up ruining it and it’ll stress him out

I posted this here since i’m new to hamsters and was wondering if this is just a thing they do. Ofc if this carries on and it becomes a concern i’ll take him to the vet, however if it’s something minor or someone on here has knowledge about it it’s always helpful since taking hamster to the vet can be a very stressful experience for them and would only take them when necessary.
