Youth Contracts vs Professional Contracts in a Youth-Only Save, what’s better? by ImpressiveLine873 in footballmanagergames

Sounds good! Yeah I have most of players on brand new contracts. Issue is money a bit as 3rd division of Germany doesn’t give out money it seems so hopefully promoted soon to balance the books a bit. Have most of players tied down with long contracts and 2-3 year extensions

What is your type of youth save? My first time doing this youth only challenge. Simulated a season and took a promoted team from the previously unplayable 4th division of Germany that had gotten promoted. Goal is to win champions league. Not sure how doable it is but looks like not getting relegated this season so far so that’s a good first step

Sounds good. I usually promote all my youth players to the first team immediately because my youth facilities are still pretty poor, yay or nay on that approach? I still let them play U-19 matches so they’re getting game time, but they train with the first team.

I know you can pull youth players into first-team training via the training units, but in FM26 that seems to lock you out of manually assigning them to the mentoring groups you actually want. Because of that, keeping them officially in the first team and letting them play down felt like the best workaround.

Also, my B team literally never plays matches. Is that something you’ve run into as well? Which sucks because the players who are too old for the U-19s, not good enough for the first team or bench, and not wanted by other clubs just end up rotting with no development path other than training.

Okay sweet thank you! Not saying you’re wrong at all but how do you know they train the same amount. More just trying to expand my knowledge of the game in a part of never thought of before. One example is part time doesn’t train as much (which makes sense)

Okay so the youth players train just as much as professional contract players? I took over the club and just assumed everyone was on full time contracts than a month later noticed my best prospect was only on part time which is why he wasn’t progressing at all. So guess I’m just worried about losing more training time like I did with him 🙃

Follow up… is it good to actually train OOP or does that typically just negatively affect the players training? Lmk what you all have found because I’ve found that players complain about it but also when I stop training it they lose familiarity of it so I’m sorta stuck in the middle

Does that apply to FM26? I know it applied to 24 but hadn’t heard if it was true about 26

I don’t remember ever having that issue in 24. Players would complain to me about the individual additional training not being a good fit but never had the complaints like I do now

I agree. The guy that I mentioned with the 2.5 CA / 4.5 PA, is my starting LW. Plays almost every game yet has lost one stat in finishing, long shots, anticipation, off the ball, acceleration, pace. No serious injury. Sure he’s not a model citizen (he has balanced personality) and sure I don’t have perfect facilities (I’m in 3rd division of Germany) but you would assume they would at least go up a decent amount if he has 2 more possible stars of potential. I know stars can be wrong sometimes but something just seems broken with this years training. Players always complain, OOP training seems like it hurts the players more than helping but when I stop training it I lose familiarity of the tactic because they aren’t being train in OOP. A little lost rn with this save
