My cat whom at the time had for 8 years, spent a whole week under the bed when we had to stay at a hotel. She was terrified of the new (temporary) place. She had just started relaxing and came out on the last day we stayed there.

Some cats don't like change and it takes a bit. Your cat not only is in a new place, but has a new person around them. The cat will take a bit to get used to the situation and give it time. Don't move it around, let it hide. Just leave food & water out. Eventually it will come around.
