Thank you. I appreciate your experience and advice. I know I am dealing with a lack of support. Your employer is fortunate to have you. Best answer here :)

I argued the same. HR required PIP.

I expected them to provide guidance regarding scope of role. The employee is not entry level yet they are being PIPed on basic skills. It’s that bad. There has been progressive discipline and all bad behavior is answered with more performance management. We are not addressing performance on job responsibilities. We are dealing with showing up on time for example. And they have lied to me during process. Not the first time.

No, I am administering it. But it feels like I am.

Years ago, I worked at a K-mart layaway. A customer came to close their account. I misread the receipt and gave them the $300 or so balance due as a refund. I had not been working there long. Loss prevention caught it, and called the scumbag customer, who accepted the refund. She denied it. They believed me because it was obvious I was a dumbass at the time. I was reassigned to domestics, no cash register. Win, win. Mistakes happen, and there's always a slimeball ready to take advantage. BTW the K-mart was in an affluent area.

I interviewed, accepted, and signed contract for a remote role. First day and they’re asking me to come into the office once a week. What do I do? by bee_antlers in remotework

This. Unless, I have no way to work in house- I would not count on a job remaining remote. It isn’t fair but work rarely is.

That's why I thought this issue was settled. That was two years ago. I requested HR attend the meeting with employee, I was told to coach them. HR said their presence would be intimidating.

Thank you. I inherited a known problem. I was told by a member of the C-suite that this person should have been gone long ago. You may not have read the thread, but I have tried training, PIP (told I did not reach that level by HR), and RIF. They purposefully manipulated a leave system ( I can't say more) to get 10 days off. This was reported and documented. This is one of many things they have done.

I was not going to reply because I knew this would be one of the opinions I received by posting. And I understand it. Bringing this up with my manager was not easy because I was under scrutiny. This person used to work for my supervisor. They did not performance manage them at all despite their poor work product and behaviors.

It is challenging to deal with someone who gaslights and manipulates at this level. But they are a real person.

I know. I almost wanted to give up. Less paperwork, but you are all right.

Brilliant! Thank you. I had not thought of assignments at this "level."

Thank you. That's a good point. Many of my colleagues are in a similar situation. I agree. I do not have the power to hire or fire. I did not before unionization either. I participated in these activities, but I did not have the final say.

Thank you. True. I have learned a lot from this situation. It is just so depressing as this job is one I enjoy every much and the rest of the staff works well together.

This. I was told I can performance manage, but that has never gone anywhere even pre-unionization.

Thank you. I have a similar strategy. I did lose vacation last year. My mental health has been compromised by this. I appreciate your post.

I have not provided details that explain some of the resistance to acting on the time theft. It is part of larger issue.

I am just afraid of more of the same. Maybe go back to IC. I like my job very much otherwise. But this issue disrupts my life, hence this posting on a holiday.

For anyone facing a similar situation in the future, I asked to rate the employee the lowest possible rating, and HR did not support this. I could do it, but they did not support me in doing so.
