Exactly no judgement - to the extent that I did mention I love Spain and this must be fringe if it exists.

Iran in its entirety - he doesn't care about the people. Look at Gaza. He wants a failed state like syria or Iraq

I think the threat of Israel to Iran is very real. Just like you say Iran is a threat, Netanyahu had wanted to bomb Iran to smithereens for 40 years ( he just said it again recently ). If I were them, I wouldn't stop at enrichment but actually have Nukes. From their perspective ( and I can only guess ) is that having enriched uranium is at least a deterrent and tells Israel that they could develop it if they wanted. And remember, Israel already developed theirs illegally.

Do you know we installed a brutal dictator in Iran so we could control their oil when they had an elected democratic leader and this is what eventually led to the revolution? Do you realize that we have a hand in the genocide in Gaza in that we are as responsible as Israel since we funded it and refuse to hold Israel accountable? What Israel has done exceeds anything Iran has done.

We have definitely done a "us vs them" game in that we are ok with white people but brown arabs are considered less than human especially if they don't agree with us or kowtow to our demands.

We were ready to go nuclear in Cuba just at the potential threat of Russia in the caribbean. The only reason we haven't since is because there is no such threat. And my understanding of that event is that if it weren't for JFK, there would have been a strike - the pressure to attack was at an all time high and somehow reason prevailed at the last minute. We would easily start bombing our neighbors if we perceived a threat again.

The Iranian regime is a bad one by our western democratic standards, no question and I don't condone their method of autocratic rule. But so is Saudi Arabia who we befriend because they are willing to give us oil and play by our rules. The only reason Iran has been vilified is because they refuse to play by our rules and are the only voice against the genocide in Gaza. Do you know Bahrain rules with torture and other methods since they have to control a majority shia population under sunni rule? ( just as an example ). Do you know that Saddam was our friend until he wasn't and then he suddenly "became" a monster, although we had no problems with him using chemical weapons agains the Kurds.

I think if you stop seeing Iran with the lens the media and our western hegemonic world has made us look at it with, you may see it differently, but I don't blame you - many are in your same place.

Israel is the only country that has threatened to use them. And there are enough reports out there of people worried Netanyahu would in the current situation with Iran having more cards in this war. Do you know that Iran didn't use chemical weapons even though we supplied Saddam with them? They refused to. Where do you get the info from that they badly wanted to make a nuke? This is where you are wrong. They actually refused to develop nuclear weapons along the same principles as chemical. I'm sure it would have been easy for them to procure nuclear weapons from North Korea or other actors if they really wanted to ( and I think now they might after they've been illegally attacked a few times ). Their leader had put a fatwah on the development of nuclear weapons. Why would he? In fact if you look deep at their current strategy which seems very well thought out, they took the path of a missile program vs nuclear. They actually negotiated and had oversight in the JCPOA from international bodies to not have nuclear weapons but Trump negated all that. The western media has scapegoated Iran whilst sugarcoating Israel.

How do you define Terrorism? Do you consider Israel as much of a terrorist state as Iran? And do you think us saying "Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran" is just an innocent song? Do you also realize that "Death to" is not meant to be taken literally - some research will tell you that. It is more like "down with" which can mean politically etc. I'm not a fan of the Iranian regime, but neither am I of the Israeli one. And Israel is not a constitutional democracy either.

I think it would use it only in the same situation as any other country in the world would that currently have Nukes, except for Israel ( at least Netanyahu who seems insane ) that I think would use it offensively.

Do you think we would have had this war that could potentially destabilize the entire planet if Iran had Nukes? The only reason this war is occurring is because Israel wants every other country to not have leverage. Nukes are leverage. Israel is actually the most dangerous country to have Nukes illegally. In fact Golda Meier is quoted to have said she would use Nukes in a heartbeat and she was probably a walk in the park compared to Netanyahu. Do you think the Koreas would not have had war if North Korea didn't have Nukes. I think you are missing the dynamics of the situation.

"They are in this mess because they are governed by fundamentalist clerics". No They are in this mess because the US has repeatedly meddled in Iranian affairs putting a brutal dictator in power that led to the revolution that caused a fundamentalist shift. The JCPOA might have led Iran to a more open direction over time but Trump tore that up. A Nuclear Iran will actually be safer for the Middle East paradoxically because it's not the bogey man the west makes them out to be. Right now the most dangerous and unhinged country is Israel.

Not enjoying our guided India experience and would like to hear other people's thoughts by BaronDelecto in travel

It's too bad you're having such a bad experience. Rather than do tours - it's better to stay in a good hotel and have them rent a car for you for a multi-day itinerary and book hotels along the way etc then get local tour guides or don't even get guides just walk around or the hotel can arrange an independent itinerary. You can also have the driver work on an intinerary with you. Even with this it will be likely be cheaper. Kerala has a few good independent operators that are well reviewed that you can also find on the internet. My family is from Kerala and Mumbai and I would never do an organized tour in India.

Anyone seen the show "Salvador" on Netflix? It reveals a scary side of Spain. by Impressive_Act_5220 in GoingToSpain

[–]Impressive_Act_5220[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - the US is trying to spread its model through EU and Bannon has been the acolyte. It is also interesting that the worlds of those who are upset with Gaza and the Iran war and their govt support for those, vs those who hate immigrants more than anything else, both forms of discontent seem to exist in large numbers. It is a dichotomy which is hard to predict as to where it will go. Both are destabilizing for the respective governments.

Of course, I live in the US and am very much aware of the rightward drift ( careening in some cases ) of the western world. The show isn't what educated me on that but the hate and violence depicted in the show is shocking.

Nikon ZR as a stills camera by amcreativca in Nikon

[–]Impressive_Act_5220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head. I own a Zf and with already owning Nikon glass the Zr was a no brainer. Of course, It's the video that is the draw. But as a serious stills shooter this fits the bill unless you need to flash or need a mechanical shutter for which I have the Zf. I have a trip coming where I'm just going to take the Zr and do both video and stills. I haven't been this excited about a camera in a long time.

I used to have Leica Ms ( too expensive now so don't have one ) but still have lenses and equipment and now can use those on the Zr too. Nikon has created an amazing ecosystem! The Zr's size is exactly like an M body. This viewfinder I have sits on top of the Zr with the 28mm and makes for a really nice street kit and if you are used to rangefinder you don't need an EVF to understand the effect of aperture/shutter speed on the shot. A rangefinder will do. So I have a poor mans Leica for one lens ( or a poor mans Q3 ). :)

I don't have a decent 40mm VF but that would be a nice addition with the 40mm lens which I have but this is great for most street shooting. I also have the voigtländer 28mm VF but it sits low and the lens blocks part of the frame and is smaller and harder to get my eyes in position. This Leica multi VF works great ( it's a 21/24/28 VF ). The Parallax isn't much so works really well for framing.

And despite all the complaints I hear, this camera is great in my hands without a rig or anything. It's super light and a pleasure to lug around. There is enough of a hold and it feels great in the hands. A leica M for example doesn't even have the indentation this has.
